Brilliant views from glamorous Rooftop Terrace and Bar
October 9th, 2012
The modern Shanghai metropolis offers many spectacular views- with the dramatic 21st Century skyscrapers on the Pudong side of the Huangpu River vying for attention with the classic elegance of the 1920’s architecture of historic The Bund precinct buildings. Views are a highly prized feature of dining and drinking establishments on both sides of the river, and the many wonderful options already available are continually being added to, presenting both visitors and locals with a surfeit of choices.
Occupying a prime location at the northern end of The Bund, The Peninsula Shanghai, when completed in late 2009, was the first new building constructed on The Bund in 60 years. The luxurious hotel takes full advantage of its exceptional location astride the major bend in the Huangpu River, presenting superb unobstructed views in all directions. Built with a scale and design in harmony with the many neighboring heritage buildings, the main tower of The Peninsula Shanghai rises a modest 14 stories. The top floor is home to one of the finest contemporary European dining rooms in Shanghai- Sir Elly’s , and on the rooftop directly above, stands Sir Elly’s Terrace – a timber-decked outdoor bar and lounge space of intimate scale and a stylish, understated luxe.
Sir Elly’s Terrace is a superb venue for enjoying sunset or evening drinks whilst absorbing the breathtaking panorama that envelopes every part of the open-air terrace. The Terrace bar is open daily from 5pm (weather permitting as it is completely open to the elements)- and offers an enticing “Sunset Hours” promotion between 5pm and 8pm, with an offer of “Order one drink and second drink is complimentary”. The bar serves a full selection of cocktails (champagne cocktails are a specialty), premium spirits, champagnes, wines and beers, and with a concise selection of small bar bites available to compliment the drinks. DJ’s spin laid back, chill out tunes in the evenings- making Sir Elly’s Terrace an attractive option for sumptuous after-dinner drinks and relaxed conversations under the night sky.

The “dress-circle” seats of the Terrace- the bright red-orange furnishings make a striking contrast with the dark timber deck and tables. The Terrace is an inverted “U” shape- wrapping around the river-front end of the hotel rooftop.
