Acclaimed restaurant serving award-winning modernist cuisine & innovative cocktails- now at new CBD location
January 20th, 2014
Singapore’s widely celebrated Tippling Club restaurant & bar, after five successful years located among the tranquil greenery of its suburban Demspey Hill location, has recently relocated to a bustling urban neighbourhood on the fringe of the CBD. Occupying an attractively designed contemporary space, set within the extensively remodelled interior of three adjoining colonial-era shophouses, the revamped Tippling Club is now conveniently accessible to the city centre, and entices a broader clientele with its new all-day dining and bar service. Internationally recognised as one of Asia’s finest restaurants, the modernist- inventive gastronomy of owner-chef Ryan Clift has garnered numerous prestigious awards and established Tippling Club at the vanguard of Singapore’s progressive dining and cocktail scene. At the new inner-city location, the same talented culinary and mixology team assembled by Clift at the previous iteration of Tippling Club continue to deliver the superbly executed and characterful dishes and cocktails that have earned the endorsement of a knowledgeable and adventurous clientele.
THE DESIGN
Whilst retaining elements of the industrial-chic aesthetic of the original restaurant, the design of the new restaurant adopts a fresh, contemporary chic approach. Designed in collaboration with New York architect Alan Barr and his Singapore-based design firm greyMatters, the decor utilises a palette of citrus and pastel green materials to contrast pleasingly with the unorthodox wall panelling of charred wood, and together with parquet oak flooring, creates an atmosphere of a laid-back comfort and elegance. Rustic reclaimed timber tables in the bar space sit perfectly with the citrus green leather banquettes. While at the corner bar, the white marble counter is faced with more of the charred timber panels- overhead the array of hanging bottles evoke the original Tippling Club bar. An upstairs space will open in early 2014 featuring a tasting kitchen and chef’s laboratory- showcasing the cutting edge cuisine in an intimate setting for up to12 diners.
MODERNIST CUISINE
Amid the new surrounds, a reassuring continuity of culinary concept sees the kitchen serving the progressive and imaginative gastronomy of Clift- confidently expressed in the two dinner tasting menus- either the “Classic” selection of 6 courses- or “Gourmand” selection of 12 courses. Optional wine pairing from the impressive wine cellar offers the complete Tippling Club experience. New to the Tippling Club are both the Lunch menu offering two or three course meals, or a customised selection of up to 8 dishes; and the three course pre-theatre dinner menu served between 6pm and 8pm.
INNOVATIVE COCKTAILS
A laid-back atmosphere at the bar belies the serious dedication to cutting-edge mixology, with head bartender Zachary de Git (winner Diageo World Class Bartender Singapore 2103) having extensively updated the original Tippling Club drinks list. Tippling Club “classics” from the original bar have been supplemented with a concise list of inventive new cocktails- offering palate-pleasing combinations of flavours, and intriguing sensory inputs. Complementing the beverages is a newly created selection of bar snacks- perfectly proportioned for all-day grazing or late night bites.
Tippling Club serves lunch Monday to Friday between midday and 3pm; and dinner Monday to Saturday from 6pm until midnight.
Advance bookings for dinner are essential.

Three adjoining colonial era shophouses have been extensively refurbished to accommodate the restaurant & bar.
The gleaming new open kitchen spans the rear portion of the double-width dining room space. A long dining counter seats guests opposite the culinary team in the kitchen.
Dining room decor features reclaimed timber tables with mis-matched chairs. Internal walls are partially panelled with a traditional Japanese technique utilising charred timber.
The Wine Room- a semi-private dining space at one end of the main restaurant- highlighted by a refrigerated, glass-fronted wine cabinet showcasing the extensive selection superb wines.
Place settings at the white marble dining counter- individual lamps automatically illuminate when guests occupy the seat.
Tippling Club cocktail bar
Occupying one of the original three shophouse spaces- the cocktail bar exudes a relaxed sophistication- hand-painted decorative ceramic floor tiles contrast with the oak parquet flooring in the dining room- delineating the two spaces.
Hanging-bottles suspended from the ceiling reference the Tippling Club hallmark from the original Dempsey Hill restaurant. The sleek bar combines a white marble counter with the charred timber paneling and walls of geometric patterned stone blocks.
An elegant citrus-green leather banquette setting spans the wall opposite the bar. Rustic tables are crafted from reclaimed timber on black steel bases.
