Glamorous cocktail bar and lounge allures with masterful mixology and elegant all-day dining
April 7th, 2015
As the uber-chic Landmark Mandarin Oriental boutique hotel celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, the hotel’s perennially popular MO Bar continues to attract an eclectic clientele that sees a mix of savvy hotel guests, business executives and the social elites and celebrities of Hong Kong keeping the atmosphere buzzing from early morning breakfast through to late night cocktails accompanied by the resident DJ’s tunes. Highly regarded for its accomplished meld of progressive mixology and gourmet all-day dining, MO Bar is the consummate meeting spot in the heart of the Central business district. Special events throughout the year have been a longstanding feature at MO Bar – internationally acclaimed musicians perform invitation-only VIP concerts – while exclusive collaborations with famed luxury designers create unique, fashion-themed Afternoon Tea menus (previous collaborations have included Stella McCartney and Jimmy Choo). And the annual Masters of Mixology events feature internationally renowned guest mixologists behind the bar.
Set within the prestigious Landmark Building on Queens Road, MO Bar is at the epicentre of Hong Kong’s Central financial and upscale retail district. The imposing high-ceilinged space accommodates the spacious main bar level plus a mezzanine lounge area at the far end of the room. Designed by acclaimed American interior architect Adam Tihany, the decor exudes a contemporary glamour – harmoniously interweaving textures and materials to create a comfortable and stylish aesthetic – luxurious and sophisticated – but also relaxed and sociable. Constructed from etched glass, the luminous u-shaped bar is the focal point of the room, while a massive illuminated red “O” – the MO Bar motif – and Chinese character for companionship – overlooks the bar from the end wall.
Headlining the formidable drinks list at MO Bar are the signature and classic cocktails crafted by Head Bartender Jigmee Lama and his experienced bar team. Polished cocktails are created with double pours of premium spirits, house-made syrups and infusions, plus fresh fruits, vegetables and local culinary ingredients sourced daily by the kitchen. A comprehensive yet concise cocktail list categorises drinks under classic & vintage, craft cocktails, and the stellar MO Bar signatures.
Designed as delicious accompaniments to the drinks, the bar cuisine developed under the guidance of Landmark Mandarin Oriental Culinary Director Richard Ekkebus (from the two-Michelin star Amber restaurant), is founded on a concept of light, fresh and nutritious dining. An eclectic array of dishes prepared from daily fresh premium produce, seafood and meats are lightly cooked for flavourful taste.
Commencing with a sumptuous breakfast buffet at 7 am, MO Bar serves a variety of menus – set lunch, bar dining menu for lunch and dinner, afternoon tea, and a tapas menu. Table reservations are strongly recommended at peak times, or take a seat at the bar while waiting for a table.
