Attractively set within an expansive street front space within the upscale Ascott Residences, Tujo Bar-sserie & Grill is a contemporary casual dining and drinks destination in the heart of downtown KL – conveniently adjacent to KLCC and Convention Centre. Tujo entices an eclectic clientele throughout the day and night – attracted by both the convivial atmosphere with friendly service, and the consistently well-executed food and drinks. The glass-fronted, double volume space provides a variety of settings across the main ground floor and an upper mezzanine level. Guests can choose between perching at the prominent bar – or take a seat at various dining settings on both levels. An outdoor garden terrace offers further possibilities. Open daily from early morning, Tujo’s service smoothly transitions from daytime meals, snacks and drinks, into a more vibrant evening destination popular for sociable dining, polished cocktails and music from DJs and live performers.
Tujo was launched in 2013 by the local SOUL Society Group, owners of uber-popular KL establishments such as SOULed Out; WIP restaurant and bar in Bangsar; and casual restaurant and bar concept Hubba Hubba. In creating Tujo, the owners have embraced a 1960’s Scandinavian-inspired design aesthetic, epitomised by a warm and homely decor that features blond timber furniture, a simple and functional design, and a muted colour palette, all to pleasing effect. A full-height living “green” wall extending at the back of the bar offers a verdant contrast to the predominantly minimalist decor.
Highly regarded for its sociable dining vibe, Tujo offers attractively priced lunch and dinner menus – with a diverse assemblage of Western and regional comfort dishes – headlined by top-notch grilled meats and seafood. Other standouts include the Malaysiana pizza – with a squid ink infused crust topped with the sambal, nuts and anchovies recreating the tastes of the local mainstay comfort dish – nasi lemak; and Tujo Stinger Satay – a flavourful interpretation on the traditional Malaysian satay stick.
And at the bar, well-priced cocktails highlight the extensive drinks list, supplemented by a great range of wines with good representations of labels from leading Australian, New Zealand and Italian wineries, as well as champagnes, local and imported beers, and premium spirits and single malts. Best known for their sumptuous renditions of refreshing mojitos, the Tujo bar team also create well-made versions of martinis, frozen margaritas, fruit sangrias, and numerous other thirst quenching concoctions.
Tujo opens daily from 7am – serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with all-day snacks and drinks until closing. Weekly themed nights are a highlight, and for information on special events and promotions check the Tujo Facebook Page.
