Setting a new benchmark for luxury and glamour among Bangkok’s dining and nightlife destinations, The House on Sathorn offers a trio of exceptional experiences with its elevated modern Asian dining, sophisticated cocktail lounge, and outdoor casual-chic bistro. Set within a masterfully refurbished heritage building, The House on Sathorn artfully marries old-world glamour with a contemporary sense of elegant yet understated luxe. Operated by the chic W Bangkok hotel, the restored mansion contrasts majestically with the sleek slate-grey monochrome of the adjacent modern hotel tower. Taking cues from the global W ethos of melding contemporary design, fashion and music with innovative cuisines and cocktails to create vibrant social spaces, The House of Sathorn appeals to a fashionable and discerning local and international clientele.
Design The late 19th Century neo-classical mansion complex has been meticulously restored and re-purposed in a collaboration between Thailand’s Fine Arts Department and acclaimed international design firm AvroKO. Preserving the architectural and historic integrity of the sprawling four-building compound, original features and finishes have been faithfully restored, while contemporary decor and Thai artwork elements have been harmoniously interwoven into the design concept. The ground floor of the main building now accommodates both The Dining Room, and The Bar, while Upstairs presents a series of private rooms and lounge spaces. Secluded behind the main mansion is The Courtyard, an expansive outdoor garden haven, enclosed on four sides by the original residence buildings.
Cuisine Heading up the culinary team, chef Faith Tutak has created an eclectic, on point menu of modern Asian cuisine that articulates influences from his peripatetic travels and experiences – from his childhood in Turkey to culinary assignments across Asia. Diners can take a seat at the impressive long timber counter and interact with the culinary team in the open kitchen, or luxuriate in the red leather banquette settings. Dining options include an attractively-priced Set Lunch Menu, and seasonally updated a la carte and dessert menus. Imaginative and whimsically titled, the dishes showcase local and imported ingredients, prepared with an exemplary execution of the modern culinary aesthetic.
Cocktails Serving superior cocktails in a luxuriously appointed space, The Bar exudes a modernised gentlemen’s club aesthetic with is plush leather upholstery and polished teak flooring – sophisticated yet unpretentious. Head mixologist Michele Montauti dispenses a thoughtfully constructed list of innovative signature cocktails crafted with well-balanced combinations of top-shelf spirits and local herbs and spices. A comprehensive drinks list features a broad selection of sake, champagne and wine, and single malts – while afternoon tea and a menu of Asian-inspired bar bites offer tasty accompaniments to the drinks. And at night cutting-edge tunes from DJs suffuse the bar spaces.
