Spring Dining Room first opened in 2004 and is the creation of a well known Thai movie & TV actor. A large 1950’s Thai bungalow, sited well back from the street on a large block of land in the central Sukhumvit residential area of Bangkok, was converted into the Spring Dining Room. Retaining the original outline of the building- but with the addition of full height glass on the front walls of the building- the effect is one of spaciousness and brightness, with a pleasant outlook over the green lawns in front of the building. The Summer Chocolate House, in a separate retro style concrete building on the front corner of the site, and Winter bar/lawn on the main lawn in front of Spring Dining Room were subsequently added to the original restaurant.
The Spring Dining Room interior is on two levels, with private rooms available on the upper level- accessed via a wide timber staircase. The main dining room features a modernistic, uncluttered style- with well spaced solid timber tables and chairs, timber floor boards, and contemporary artwork pieces featured on the walls. A feature chandelier hangs over the front reception area- adjacent is a separate alcove with a private long table, and there are also some outdoor tables on a timber terrace.
The menu offers a contemporary interpretation of Thai and Asian cuisines, with an emphasis on freshness and seasonally available produce. There is a good selection of starter dishes designed to be shared, plus a wide choice of main courses including salads, curries, Japanese style rice and salmon, pad thai with prawns, pasta and satays. Desserts are also a specialty. Wines, champagnes beer and spirits are all available from the bar.
The Summer Chocolate House– as the name suggests- is offering a range of chocolate desserts and coffees in a retro styled interior of rattan and soft cushions, muted brown colors, and a relaxing outlook over the lawn towards the Spring Dining Room.
And in the dry “winter” months of Bangkok ( November- March)- which coincides with the “dry” season- the Winter Bar opens every evening on the main lawn. Lounging on large soft leather cushions and sipping cocktails or other drinks in the open air ambience -either after dining inside at Spring- or simply as a destination in itself. Winter Bar has become very popular and draws a good crowd every night.
Bookings are recommended for both Spring Dining Room and Winter Bar/lawn.
