When it opened in 2008, the visually stunning and luxurious design of the Sultan Lounge at the Mandarin Oriental set a new standard for sophisticated lounges and clubs in Kuala Lumpur. Set in a basement space of the hotel, the design for Sultan Lounge was created by renowned New York based firm Dupuox Design- whose other notable club design projects include the Buddha Bar in New York, Cocoon in London and Nikki Beach in Miami. Themed around the concept of the mystique of the Arabian nights, with flowing fabric from the ceilings evoking the feeling of an opulent desert tent. Abundant use of gold finishings- including the spectacular gold chromed “cloud shaped” DJ station- create the atmosphere of luxury and extravagance. The lounge features a row of ten semi-circular booths set along one wall. Each booth can accommodate comfortably up to ten guests. A series of dramatic high backed chairs and low tables are grouped opposite the two bars- at either end of the club floor. The centre of the space is highlighted by the prominent DJ booth. At one end of the club are a couple of pool tables- not the standard pub versions- but stylishly crafted from light colored timbers to blend with the decor theme of Sultan Lounge. The chic, modern elegance of the design is complimented by the changing colors of the LED lighting system- creating the atmosphere for a unique club experience. The resident DJs at Sultan Lounge play a range of tunes to suit the mood of the night- warming up from down-tempo House early to more upbeat as the night progresses. International guests DJ acts are a regular feature at Sultan Lounge and many globally notable acts have played at the golden booth. The bar menu features all the premium spirits, cocktails, champagnes and wines to be expected in such uber-luxurious surroundings. Some featured cocktails include the MO Kuala Lumpur- Sultini– a signature mix of vodka, mango, cassis, orange and cranberry. The Orientini is a martini mixed with rum, ornage curacao, grenadine and pineapple. Special “packages” feature multiple bottles of selected premium French champagnes; and a number of options for both premium spirits and mixers, or standard spirits. wines, shooters, and beers complete the menu. A selection of bar snacks can be ordered from the bar. Sultan Lounge offers a truly luxurious setting for enjoying a night of clubbing, or just to sit back and take in the entertainment. As expected of a venue of this calibre, some dress standards apply, and prices are within the expected range for a luxury hotel club.
