FLY is a sleek, contemporary nightclub that opened in December 2010, on the periphery of the LKF nightlife district, in Central Hong Kong. The club has been conceived as an “Urban Playground”, offering guests both an outdoor casual area, and an expansive 3,500 square foot dance club inside. FLY is owned and operated by the same group behind the other nearby Hong Kong nightlife fixtures- VOLAR, HALO, and LILY & BLOOM.
The design, by local Hong Kong interior designer Alicia Tan, comprises two distinct spaces. The front terrace area of the street level entrance has been lined with timber panelling on the walls and ceiling, and with some greenery providing by plants to soften the egdes. The “playful” features such as a pair for swing chairs suspended from the ceiling, and a hopscotch grid painted onto the dark timber floorboards, provide an atmosphere for relaxed drinks and chilling out, and also as a primer for the more serious partying that awaits behind the dark tinted glass doors.
Entering the main indoor space, the design cues a modern, minimalist style, utilising combinations of “industrial” materials such as dark graphite colored tiles, raw concrete and mesh screens, and highlighted by the sleek , jet black DJ booth, surrounded by a huge, floor to ceiling LED wall. The main bar features a long black counter with bar stool seating set along one wall inside the entrance. A mirrored back bar display, with shelves of highlighted liquor bottles adds an attractive element to the bar area. FLY offers an innovative cocktail and drinks menu- with a specialty being the house-infused spirits and alluring cocktails.
For the main club area- the “Back Room”- the acoustics and lighting were the fundamental issues driving the design- so that all the clubber’s senses are engaged in the experience- hearing, seeing and feeling the music. The massive Turbosound system is powerful enough to literally make the hair on your skin vibrate. The LED wall displays graphics are synched to the sounds and beats being pumped out by the DJs. The furnishings are arranged in flowing curved settings- with leather padded bench seating, metal stools, and tables that can double as dancing platforms. Other contemporary design elements are the living street art featured on two of the walls- the original work of renowned French graffiti artist, LIES ONE.
The music style at FLY features the best of tech house, electro, mashup, breaks, dubstep, DnB and everything in between. FLY host regular special events and promotions.
