The Sukhothai Bangkok is a luxurious boutique hotel located in the heart of Bangkok’s business and embassy district. The low-rise buildings occupy an expansive tropical garden site- set well back from the main road at the end of a tree lined driveway. Comfortably away from the bustle of the downtown traffic, the hotel is an oasis of Zen-like tranquility.
Recently celebrating its 20th anniversary, The Sukhothai Bangkok has received world wide acclaim and is frequently listed in the top tier of rankings for the world’s leading hotels. The design of The Sukhothai cleverly blends elements of traditional Thai heritage with contemporary luxe to provide guests with an experience of inimitable style and sophistication. A collaboration between internationally renowned architects Kerry Hill and Edward Tuttle, and famed Thai designer Pichitra Boonyarataphan, the design concept draws inspiration from the ancient Siam capital city of Sukhothai- with prominent placements of replica stupas and pagodas, and traditional lily ponds that re-create a distinctly “Thai” ethos. The interiors are suffused with combinations of Thai silk textiles, contemporary teakwood furniture and discretely luxurious modern furnishings.
The ZUK BAR occupies an indoor – outdoor space on the ground floor lobby level- directly adjacent to the Colonnade restaurant- overlooking the central courtyard pond with its recreated stupas. The Zuk Bar has three main zones- the central bar area – with seating around the bar on high back teakwood chairs, or at table settings. On a slightly raised level is the lounge area- with luxurious sofas and arm chair settings- and with a grand piano at the head of the room. Opening off from the other side of the bar is the outdoor lounge- an intimate rectangular space with a modern understated elegance- the timber decked area is completely surrounded by water lily ponds. Wall mounted fans circulate the warm tropical evening air, and the outlook over the outdoor colonnaded courtyard and water lily ponds provide a sensuous, distinctly Asian, atmosphere.
