Mellow Restaurant and Bar in Bangkok has a modern, cosmopolitan style that would sit comfortably in major metropolises such as New York, Tokyo, London or Sydney. With a prominent corner location facing onto the main road in the upmarket Thonglor dining and lifestyle area of Bangkok, Mellow has enjoyed a sustained popularity with both local residents and visitors since it opened in 2010. Spread over two levels in a box-shaped, steel and glass framed building, Mellow offers an international menu for all-day dining, and a more upbeat bar scene with DJs in the evenings. The menu encompasses Western “comfort” style dishes, blended with Asian influences and ingredients. And the bar specialises in serving up creative cocktails and premium spirits for an increasingly discerning clientele in Bangkok. With both indoor and outdoor seating options, Mellow can be a destination for a casual lunch, afternoon coffee and chill-out space, or a more lively night-time venue for dining and socialising over drinks and tunes provided by the live DJs.
Mellow has a prominent frontage onto the main Thonglor street
The design of Mellow embraces an industrial-chic style with a tempered palette of grey, black, blond timbers, and exposed brickwork. The external facade features full height walls of black, steel framed glass windows on two sides that bathe the interior with natural light and open up the internal spaces to the street life outside. The restaurant is entered via a heavy, industrial grade stainless steel door. Inside, the ground level features the main dining space that flows through to outdoor terrace tables, with the bar and kitchen at the opposite end of the room. A broad timber staircase leads to the upper level, where there are further dining tables, and an open-air balcony that overlooks the bustling Thonglor street.
The interior design has been executed with functional simplicity, with clean lines and minimal detailing creating informal spaces that feel naturally comfortable. Extensive use of blond timbers for the furnishings, is matched with tan leather sofas, and an eclectic assortment of dining chair styles- variously upholstered with fabrics and black leather. The ” industrial” elements include exposed overhead ducting, polished concrete flooring, the walls of raw brickwork, and the front door and upstairs bar counter fabricated from brushed stainless steel.
Mellow also regularly showcases the works of local and international artists with customised installations and artwork on the walls and windows.

The kitchen at Mellow serves a contemporary food menu that includes concise groupings of western comfort foods with selections of pizzas, pastas, salads; and mains such as “Classic Fish and Chips”; “Sirloin Steak”; and “Pan Roasted Sea Bass”. The Asian twist to the menu is found in a number of dishes where the traditional ingredients are supplemented with local flavours and spices. The appetizer of Grilled Vegetables is transformed with the addition of the Northern Thai style spicy almond dip. And the traditional Calzone has the seemingly incongruous, but delicious, addition of smoked clams seasoned in Larb (Lao style) spices to the standard cheese filling. The presentation of the dishes is vibrant and fresh, and the serving portions are generous.
Service works smoothly with a breezy informality that suits the relaxed, casual atmosphere that is the enduring attraction of Mellow.
