UPDATE: KINKI BANGKOK HAS CLOSED- AUGUST 2013
Rooftop Restaurant & Bar- Japanese cuisine served with an urban attitude
March 18th, 2013
Recently opened in Bangkok, Kinki is a modern concept of Japanese restaurant and bar, combining an appealing selection of authentic yet modern Japanese cuisine, with a rooftop bar- suffused with vibrant music. Drawing on the success of the original Kinki on the Marina Bay waterfront of Singapore, the owners have established the Thailand sister branch in the ultra-trendy Thonglor district of Bangkok. Occupying an expansive rooftop space on top of the fashionable Rain Hill Community Mall, Kinki features a glass encased large main dining room, complete with sushi counter and several semi-private dining spaces, plus a large outdoor terrace and bar zone. The Kinki concept is a somewhat irreverent take on the typical Japanese restaurant, exuding a hip-edgy attitude that has made it a hit with the younger Singaporean urbanites, and Kinki is now targeting a similar following in Bangkok. Live DJs play nightly on the outdoor terrace, adding a restrained but funky vibe to the early evenings, and more upbeat tunes as the night progresses.
Kinki opens daily from 5:00 pm, with a happy hour promotion nightly 6:00 pm ~ 9:00 pm, and themed party nights Wednesdays ( Kinki-Licious), and Fridays (Chef Kinki Goes Urban). Check the Kinki Facebook Page for updates and special events.
The spacious main dining area of Kinki- an industrial chic space highlighted with vibrant splashes of color from the graffiti art spray painted onto the walls.
Taking advantage of its free-standing space on the mall rooftop, the Kinki designers have expanded on the original Singapore concept- overlaying an industrial-chic interior theme of corrugated iron roofing, unpolished concrete flooring and exposed metal beams, with the extravagantly colorful and dramatic murals that reference Japanese manga and anime street art genres, splashed across all the internal walls by renowned local graffiti artist NEF Crew. The main indoor dining room has a comfortable spaciousness with the high ceiling, full height glass on three sides and generously spaced tables. Additional dining spaces include two interconnected private rooms, and the large, partially covered, outdoor terrace.
The sushi counter extends across one end of the dining room.
Colorful murals inspired by Japanese manga street art were exclusively created for Kinki by award winning Thai graffiti artist, NEF Crew.

Selections from the Food & Beverage Menus
The culinary team at Kinki, under the direction of Executive Chef Eddie ( Khoon Huat Goh) serve up an enticing menu that explores ingredients and cooking techniques that complement Japanese cuisine while retaining an emphasis on top quality and freshness- all with a signature Kinki twist. Stand out dishes include Kinki Style Okonomiyaki, with the usual Japanese ‘pancake’ base substituted with Kinki’s version of a homemade baguette base. Seductively crispy, the okonomiyaki is generously topped with Hokkaido scallops, prawns, applewood-smoked bacon, sweet onions and mozzarella. Foie Gras & Scallop Sushi features an unexpected pairing of succulent raw Hokkaido scallop and pan-seared foie gras. And King Salmon Maki combines king salmon, ricotta, avocado and cucumber, with the roll covered in crispy tempura flakes.
The beverage program at Kinki is centred on the Kinki Originals– innovative cocktails concocted with enticing hybrid combinations of Asian-inflected flavours and ingredients, including local Thai influences. The Margari Thai is a combination of lemongrass, galangal & kaffir lime infused tequila, with fresh lime & honey, garnished with a red chili. And the Thaipirissima is crafted from fresh ginger and kumquats muddled with lime, rum and holy basil.
The bar also serves a broad selection of premium sake, shochu, and umeshu; together with regular premium spirits, Japanese and local beers, and wines and champagnes.
Shibuya Crush- Fresh ginger & kumquats muddled with lime, rum and holy basil (Mocktail)
Margari Thai- lemongrass, galangal & kaffir lime infused tequila, with fresh lime & honey.

From the Maki & Temaki selections- Dragon: Prawn tempura, umagi, avocado, & snowcrab
