Authentic contemporary Bavarian cuisine and German beers at newly opened Bangkok restaurant & bar
UPDATE : September 2014 – Brotzeit has closed
August 9th, 2013
Authentic Bavarian style cuisine and drinking can now be enjoyed in Bangkok at the recently opened Brotzeit German Bier Bar & Restaurant in the fashionable Thonglor area. The concept for Brotzeit was developed in Singapore, where the first restaurant opened in 2006. Sustained popularity in Singapore has led to the opening of several additional Brotzeit restaurants, and subsequently, further regional expansion with franchised restaurants established in Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines and Hong Kong. The unique Brotzeit concept presents diners with genuine contemporary Bavarian cuisine, prepared in the kitchens by German chefs, complemented with premium Paulaner German draft and bottled beers. True to it’s Bavarian heritage, Brotzeit offers a casual, yet stylish environment for drinking beer and sharing hearty Bavarian dishes.
Brotzeit presents guests with a typical contemporary German-style dining experience – with dark timber tables and bench seats, padded with dark brown leather- and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The newly opened Bangkok restaurant is located on a prominent corner on the main Thonglor road- in the heart of the #1 upmarket, uber-chic nightlife and lifestyle destination in Bangkok. With both an expansive outdoor “biergarten” area, and spacious indoor air conditioned bar and dining space, Brotzeit provides ample choices for large or small groups to enjoy the German beers and food, watch sport on large screens, or observe the passing street life on Thonglor Road.
Premium German Beers
All the beers served at Brotzeit are imported from Germany and consequently are brewed in accordance to the German Purity Law dating back to 1516. This stipulates that beer can only contain four 100% natural ingredients- water, malt, hops and yeast. No additives of any kind are permitted. The draft beers are all directly imported from the Munich based Paulaner Brewery.
The four draft beers served at Brotzeit Thonglor are:
“Hefe Weissbier“– made from wheat malt, with the distinctive ‘cloudy’ appearance, and a subtle citrus nose.
“Dunkel Hefe Weissbier“– a Weissbier made from roasted wheat malt, full bodied.
“Original Münchner Dunkel”- a typical Munich style dark lager, caramel malts provide a sweeter taste.
“Original Münchner Lager”– This Paulaner beer is the #1 Munich Lager, with a clean, slightly hoppy nose, and a clear, golden color.
In addition to the draft beers, Brotzeit also offer a selection of premium bottle German beers. These include “Paulaner Pils”– the popular pilsner , light style beer; “Kellerbier Anno 1417″– a traditional, unfiltered lager; “Salvator”– the original Paulaner beer- first brewed over 350 years ago. Other choices include an alcohol-free wheat beer, and an alcohol-free lager.
Although it is quite possible to just enjoy the cold beers at Brotzeit, the Bavarian cuisine is equally tempting. Prepared to authentic recipes by the in-house German chef from freshly sourced local ingredients, the signature dish is the Schweinshaxn / Pork Knuckle- Crispy hind shank of grain fed pork served with potato salad, sauerkraut and homemade sauce on the side. Other popular German dishes include the Wurstelplatte- Sausage Platter (for sharing)- traditional German sausages- Nürnberger: Pork bratwurst with mashed potato and sauerkraut Original Weisswurst: Traditional Munich veal and garlic pork sausage served with sauerkraut and mustard; and spicy chicken sausages.
The extensive menu also includes many other dishes- Bavarian Potato Dumpling & spinach; Wiener Schnitzel; Veal Goulash; and Grilled chicken breasts & salad, and Grilled salmon fillet & rocket salad. And no German meal would be complete without the classic dessert of Apfulstrudel- Apple Strudel served with vanilla ice cream.
Brotzeit Thonglor is open daily from 12 pm to 12 am. Check the Facebook Page for updates on special promotions and events.
Brotzeit- outdoor biergarten & indoor bar & dining
The main bar extends across the rear wall, with the indoor dining area adjacent.
Outdoor tables of the Brotzeit Biergarten extend both sides of the corner location- overlooking the constant bustle of the main Thonglor road.
The timber-decked outdoor terrace extends across both the main frontage and down the side of the restaurant- with a choice of both the signature bench seats and a number of high tables and stools.
An impressive solid timber communal table is a feature at all Brotzeit restaurants- as are the hand-painted wall murals depicting German beer drinking activities and brewing processes, and the lighted shelves stacked with bottles of Paulaner beer.
The substantial main bar spans the back wall- crafted from solid timber, with comfortable leather upholstered bars stools. Large screens are installed both inside and outside for patrons to watch their favourite sports programming.
A front alcove section offers street views with air-conditioned comfort. A series of leather banquettes extend across the sides of the alcove for a relaxed and comfortable alternative to the bench seating in the main dining area.
A distinctive design element for all Brotzeit restaurants are the attractive displays of stacked Paulaner bottles on lighted shelving.
Brotzeit exclusively serve four varieties of PAULANER draft beers on tap.
