New opening for famous Jim Thompson restaurants- authentic Thai cuisine with hallmark style & charm
January 27th, 2014
Recently opened in Bangkok, Jim Thompson Restaurant & Lounge is the third local restaurant operated by the internationally renowned Jim Thompson group. Most famous for their exquisite hand-crafted silk fabrics and fashion, Jim Thompson have also for more than 20 years applied the same focus on authenticity to an expanding collection of restaurants- in Bangkok, and also Japan and Singapore.
Joining two other restaurants in Bangkok- the original Jim Thompson Restaurant and Wine Bar located at the Jim Thompson House and Museum, and Cafe 9 which is housed within the flagship retail store in centre of the Silom shopping district, the new restaurant is located on a street front space on Surawong Road- also in the popular Silom tourist precinct. The split level interior features the main restaurant on the spacious ground floor, with the lounge and intimate bar on an upper mezzanine level.
Consistent with its sibling Silom restaurant Cafe 9, the new Jim Thompson Restaurant & Lounge serves a combination of both authentic Thai dishes and popular Western cafe dishes such burgers, sandwiches, pasta, salads. Following the hallmark Jim Thompson culinary philosophy of- “absolutely Thai, Thompson-style”– highlight dishes include the Roasted Duck with Kale Sauce- served with cinnamon served with special kale sauce; and Poo Nim Phad Pong Gari– stir-fried soft shell crab with onion and egg in yellow curry. And the talented pastry chef creates an impressive array of desserts- both Western and Thai. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner daily, with all-day snacks also available from the kitchen. Upstairs, the Lounge entices as a quiet haven for relaxed pre-dinner or late evening drinks- with a trio of local musicians playing a contemporary repertoire of jazz and popular tunes.
Jim Thompson Restaurant & Lounge opens daily between 9 am and 11 pm. With its reasonably priced, authentic Thai cuisine, relaxed ambience and convenient location, it is sure to be as well received as all the other Jim Thompson restaurants.

The outdoor terrace that extends across the front of the restaurant offers a casual setting for drinks and meals.

A mezzanine level across the rear of the room accommodates the Lounge- an elegant haven for relaxed drinks and live music.
Large glass windows across the facade bathe the interior with natural light during the day, and colourful street lighting at night. Elegant table settings include classic white table clothes, custom made teak chairs- upholstered with Jim Thompson fabrics. A montage of vintage photos extending across the side wall evoke the heritage of the brand and its founder- Jim Thompson.
Mezzanine Lounge
The upper level Lounge has a distinctive decor that exudes “tropical chic”- with bespoke furnishings and dark timbers recalling the glamorous heritage of the Jim Thompson brand.
