Refurbished- the glamorous bar & lounge allures with consummate cocktails and sophisticated late night vibe
January 18th, 2014
Prominent within the Hong Kong dining and bar scene since its debut in 2007, Zuma Hong Kong has garnered an impressive reputation for both its modern Japanese cuisine, and alluring cocktail bar and lounge. Set within an expansive two level space within the prestigious Landmark complex in Central Hong Kong, the restaurant features the contemporary Japanese design aesthetic that is the hallmark of the Zuma group restaurants internationally.
CONCEPT- In recent months the upper level cocktail bar and lounge has undergone a significant refurbishment, and has relaunched with a fresh appearance and an updated concept that encapsulates current international trends for combining sophisticated cocktail bars with an intimate night club experience. A new approach to the cocktail program entices an after-work crowd with an extensive repertoire of contemporary European mixology, complemented by the Asian-inflected flavours of the Zuma Signature cocktails. And as the evening unfolds, the resident DJ injects an upbeat tempo as the bar transforms into a sophisticated late night drinks rendezvous.
DESIGN- The sleek new space has been created by award-winning Japanese design group Studio Glitt, who have been behind the design of all Zuma restaurants globally- and executed the original Zuma Hong Kong interiors. Adopting a muted palette of dark brown timber and natural earth tones, the bar and lounge spaces are suffused with a warm, golden glow from amber lighting fixtures and luminous panels. With the bar relocated to one side of the opened up space- the new concept sees a DJ deck incorporated into a large communal bench table opposite the bar- and a series of intimate leather sofa settings in the perimeter lounge area.
COCKTAILS- An impressive new cocktail program has been created by the mixology team at Zuma Hong Kong– led by bar manager Arkadiusz Rybak who was most recently at Zuma London. Arkadiusz deploys his extensive knowledge of cutting-edge European mixology techniques at the bar- evident in the comprehensive cocktail list that emphasises both innovative infusion techniques, plus barrel and bottle ageing. Exemplifying the Asian-inflected infusions are the “Shochu-tonics”– shochu infused with fresh Asian fruits and herbs such as yuzu, plum, and jasmine. Bottle-aged cocktails include gin and vodka based drinks- 3 months in the bottle creates an oxidising effect that mellows and enriches the flavours. And barrel-ageing imparts a smoky aroma to dark spirits such as Zacapa 23 year rum, whisky and cognac. In addition to the cocktails, Zuma also offers an extensive selection of Japanese whiskies, single malts and American whiskeys; premium spirits; and a broad selection of wines from the outstanding wine cellar.
Zuma bar & lounge opens Monday to Friday 12:00 pm until late; and Saturday and Sunday 3:00 pm until late.
