A serendipitous location above the new annexe of Sydney’s iconic art-deco Museum of Contemporary of Art ensures the MCA Cafe, and its adjoining Sculpture Terrace, enjoy uninterrupted views spanning the adjacent CBD office towers, Circular Quay, Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Conveniently located at the nexus of the central business and The Rocks tourist districts, the MCA Cafe is a popular choice for casual snacks, meals and beverages. Set on the rooftop four floors above the bustling harbour-front promenade, the cafe maintains some separation from the crowds below, and although no bookings are taken, tables are usually available with a only a short wait.
Operated by the highly regarded Fresh Catering group, the well-priced menu at MCA Cafe features modern Australian cafe-style dishes, prepared from fresh local produce. Menu selections range from breakfast dishes, salads, and burgers, to shared plates and boards. Some standout dishes include the Shared Plate of Avocado & Lime Bruschetta with Shaved Haloumi; the Wow Burger™ – with Beef, Cheese & Mole Verde; Roasted Salmon with Classic Tartare & Rosemary Kipfler; and Ceviche of Mulloway, Red Quinoa & Tostada Salad. Beverage options include a compact list of mostly local wines by the glass or bottle, plus beers and cider, soft drinks, tea and coffee.
Open daily from 10:00 am, MCA Cafe serves the full menu until 4:00 pm, and remains open for dinner on Thursday evenings only – with a special menu and closing at 9:00 pm. No table reservations are taken. Private parties and corporate events can be booked for either the outdoor Sculpture Terrace, or at several luxurious private rooms.
