Established in London since 1994, GAUCHO restaurants have cleverly elevated the traditional Argentine asado barbeque culture into a sleek and sophisticated contemporary dining experience. Garnering an impressive following in the UK dining scene, Gaucho now operate 14 restaurants there including 12 in London, with further restaurants in Dubai, Buenos Aires, and recently (October 2014) the first Asian restaurant launched in Hong Kong. Ensuring authenticity, Gaucho Hong Kong rigorously ensure the provenance of the culinary ingredients, serving a cuisine centred on prime free-range Argentine Angus beef, fresh seafood ceviches, and the quintessential Argentine pastry dish – empanadas. Conveniently located at the core of Hong Kong’s Central business district, Gaucho exudes the same contemporary luxe of its London counterparts with a sleek decor of black leather banquettes, crystal chandeliers, extensive white marble and gleaming chrome. A popular business lunch destination, Gaucho at night allures with its luxuriously appointed, dimly lighted interior, that together with first-rate cuisine and knowledgeable service make for memorable dining.
Gaucho Hong Kong occupies an expansive 5th floor space at the LHT Tower on Queen’s Road Central, with a generously proportioned main dining room supplemented by three separate private dining rooms, a sleek lounge bar, and glass-encased wine cellar and tasting room. Modeled closely on the design of the London-based Gaucho restaurants, the Hong Kong interior is highlighted by the hallmark black and white cowhide wall and seatback coverings that blend harmoniously with the swank contemporary decor.
The culinary experience at Gaucho is centred on their steaks – grass-fed, free range Argentine Angus beef – sourced directly from Pampas ranchers and expertly cooked on the traditional charcoal parilla grill. A wide variety of prime cuts are featured on the menu, with standout choices including the Tira de Ancho – 500g of spiral cut rib-eye, slow-grilled with chimichurri; and the Churrasco de Lomo – a 400g fillet, spiral cut, marinated for 48 hours in garlic, parsley and olive oil. Other highlights of the Gaucho menu include Peruvian-inspired ceviches and the classic Argentine empanadas.
An encyclopedic wine list features wines exclusively sourced from across the diverse wine regions of Argentina, offering a variety of grapes and styles that ideally complement the Argentine cuisine. And at the sleek bar, the cocktail list is headlined by signature drinks from the London restaurants – classic cocktails tweaked with an Argentine inflection to create well-executed and sophisticated libations.
Gaucho Hong Kong opens daily for both lunch and dinner. A popular attraction on Hong Kong’s dining scene, reservations are recommended. Flexible private room configurations are good for corporate entertaining or small parties.
