Coastal cuisine and refreshing cocktails served at newly opened restaurant on Repulse Bay beachfront
January 2nd, 2015
An idyllic beachfront location at Repulse Bay on Hong Kong Island’s south coast is the setting for the newly opened Limewood – a casual BBQ and seafood restaurant and bar. In harmony with its beachfront setting, Limewood exudes a laid back, resort vibe, while serving a terrific interpretation of “coastal cuisine” – inspired by the cuisines of the Caribbean islands, and coastal communities of South America, the Pacific, and South East Asia. Using the freshest ingredients, seafood and meats are cooked simply on the charcoal barbecue grill to create dishes that are light, fresh and uncomplicated. Perfectly matched with the cooking, refreshing tropical-themed cocktails are highlighted by some stellar margaritas.
Limewood is the latest restaurant concept from Maximal Concepts – the local group behind acclaimed Hong Kong restaurants such as Mott 32, Blue Butcher, Brickhouse and Fish & Meat. Set within newly launched retail and lifestyle centre The Pulse on the promenade of the beach at Repulse Bay, Limewood opens out onto the beachfront, just a few steps from the sandy beach. Spacious interiors, with separate restaurant and bar sections, are enhanced with folding-back windows that span the entire frontage, opening the interiors to the sea breezes and beach views. The interior decor embraces a colourful “beach-shack” vibe, with bleached timbers, whitewashed ceilings and woodwork, splashes of turquoise, and with dining on unfinished wooden benches, or simple yet chic table furnishings.
The enticing “coastal dining” concept created by Culinary Director Malcolm Wood and Executive Chef Russell Doctrove is elegantly expressed in their approachable menu centred around fresh seafood and meats – barbecued on the charcoal grill – and representative across a spectrum of coastal cuisine influences. In addition to the grills, a first class selection of Cold dishes include Spicy Yellow Fin Tune Ceviche; Spicy Tiger Prawn Roll, and Pacific Lobster Salad. Standout Fish dishes include Charred Whole Sea Bass and Deep Fried Whole Snapper Thai Style; with Meat dishes including 24 Hour Charred Beef Rib and Hawaiian Roasted Baby Pig Leg. Also targeting local residents, Limewood has adopted a family friendly approach – complete with a thoughtful Kid’s Menu of snacks, mains and desserts.
Across from the restaurant section, the Limewood bar is open all day, serving thirst-quenching cocktails that evoke a beachside lifestyle. The bar team specialise in mixing up a variety of tantalising margaritas, with refreshing flavour combinations like Cucumber & Mint, and Pomegranate & Watermelon. The cocktail list further entices with drinks like Limewood’s take on the classic mojito, the spectacular Barbecued Pineapple Cuban Mojito, and the Limewood Sangria, plus other updated classics. Beverage selections also include non-alcohol versions of frozen margaritas, Peroni Lager and American Craft Beer on tap, and an engaging list of premium quality wines thoughtfully selected from global wineries to match the flavours of the coastal cuisine.
Limewood is open daily – at the restaurant for lunch and dinner; and at the bar – all day from 12:00 pm. Special menu promotions and events are highlighted on the Limewood Facebook Page.
