Inspired by the traditional wine bars of Venice know as bacaro, &SONS introduces an authentic Italian bar experience to Singapore. Offering the welcoming and relaxed style of hospitality synonymous with Italian bar culture, &SONS serves an appetizing menu of Italian small plates cuisine as the consummate accompaniment to the extensive selection of Italian wines and classic cocktails. Conveniently located in a row of restored heritage shophouses adjacent to the main CBD office district, &SONS is a popular destination for light lunches, after-work aperitivo and dinner, or late night drinks. Opened in 2013 by the Italian culinary team behind the acclaimed local fine dining restaurant Il Lido, &SONS exudes an engaging authenticity and sociable vibe reminiscent of the famous Venetian wine bars.
Set within a spacious corner shophouse space, &SONS offers casual outdoor seating at high tables set under large black market umbrellas, and with comfortable dining at well-spaced bistro tables in the stylish interior. A handsome marble-faced bar stands prominently at the entrance while the kitchen at the rear includes a glass-fronted meat curing room showcasing the house-cured meats and salami. A stylish contemporary decor deftly fuses with the traditional Italian wine bar aesthetic – featuring a bold palette of dark timber flooring and furniture, contrasting with turquoise rendered walls and traditional style black and white chequered flooring.
Modern Italian cuisine is admirably expressed in both the uncomplicated cooking of timeless classics such as rustic pastas, and the contemporary preparation of small plates for sharing. An artisanal approach is evident in the specialty cured meats and salami prepared in-house, and the wide selection of gourmet Italian cheeses. A well-priced weekday lunch menu offers a compact selection of main dishes – pastas, salad, fish and meat; while the main bar menu presents a thoughtfully constructed selection of tasteful small plates and platters for all-day sharing.
At the heart of the quintessential bacaro experience are the wines and classic cocktails served at the bar. In addition to the substantial selection of boutique Italian wines served by the glass or bottle, polished renditions of Italian-origin classic cocktails such as the Negroni, Americano, Bellini, and Spritz highlight the &SONS drinks service.
&SONS opens on weekdays from 11:30 am until 1:00 am, and on Saturdays from 5:00 pm till 2:00 am. Attractive regular promotions include the “8 till 8″ which embraces the early evening apertivo concept with a list of classic cocktails priced at $8++, available weekdays between 5:00pm and 8:00pm.
