Recently arrived into the burgeoning bar and restaurant scene in the SOHO neighbourhood adjacent to the PMQ complex, Stazione Novella introduces a genuine experience of convivial Italian hospitality with its well-executed “bar Italiano” concept. Occupying a compact corner space that opens out onto the street, Stazione Novella deftly channels its Italian heritage with simple yet authentic bar decor, and an all-day bar menu that features traditional Italian bar snacks such as panini, pastries and salumi plus a broad selection of quintessential Italian beverages including espresso, prosecco, chianti, and cocktail classics like Negroni, Aperol Spritz and Americano. The latest concept from the progressive Black Sheep Restaurants group, Stazione Novella is a comfortable and convenient setting where guests can, with a drink in hand, prop at the counter and high tables facing out onto the street, or relax at the handful of tables inside the bar.
Design Closely modelled on the small bars and fiaschetterias in the vicinity of Florence’s central station, Stazione Novella features an understated decor of classic cafe timber furniture, wine bottles showcased along full height wall and window shelving, and with hallmark chianti bottles suspended across the ceiling. Adding authenticity to its concept – a large railway clock mounted on the street corner, and a wall-mounted retro mechanical railways departures flipboard.
Food Serving freshly made bar snacks all day, the concise menu offers selections of panini, bruschetta, salumi and cheeseboards. Appetising standouts among the Panini include the Traditional Panini – prosciutto cotto, chilli mostarda, mozzarella and tomato; and Mortadella & Coppa – pepperoncini, three cheese spread, balsamic ; while Bruschetta such as Asparagus, truffle oil, Parmesan; and Mortadella, goat cheese, aged balsamic vinegar, are perfect accompaniments to the refreshing cocktails or wine.
Drinks Consistent with its bar Italiano theme, the drinks list is exclusively of Italian origin. In addition to a special house-exclusive Chianti, a tight list of well-priced regional Italian wines and prosecco are supplemented by Italian beers – with Peroni on draft – and traditional Italian liqueurs. Consummate renditions of perennially popular Italian cocktails include the iconic Negroni, Americano, and Aperol Spritz – now also served on tap.
Stazione Novella opens daily from 7:30 am for espresso and pastries, with service continuing until late at night. A highlight is the daily Apertivo Hour promotion – with complimentary panini and bruschetta between 5 and 7 pm. Check on the Facebook Page for updates on special promotions. A good news for dog owners – Stazione Novella is dog-friendly – with house-made dog treats on the weekend.
