Chic Parisian-style sidewalk cafe at historic Hotel Metropole Hanoi

There can be few more attractive settings for a cafe in central Hanoi than La Terrasse at the iconic grand dame of Hanoi hotels – the Sofitel Metropole Hanoi. Modeled on the quintessential Parisian sidewalk cafe, La Terrasse nestles under a traditional green awning at the front of the hotel’s main building, prominent on a tree-lined corner in the centre of Hanoi’s historic Old Quarter. An ideal location for soaking up the atmosphere of Hanoi’s bustling street life, La Terrasse serves an all-day menu of classic French cafe cuisine and refreshing beverages to an eclectic clientele of stylish locals, hotel guests and tourists. Relaxed evening drinks and dining experiences are elevated on the weekends with live music from the resident saxophonist.
Decor Simple yet elegant cafe-style tables and chairs stand on a polished timber deck that wraps around the corner of the hotel while overhead, vintage ceiling fans are suspended from the wrought iron framed awning. Generously spaced tables seat around 50 guests in an atmosphere that exudes Parisian chic.
Cuisine The accomplished culinary team at the Metropole have created a splendid menu of traditional French cafe food, perfect for any time of day. Highlights from the seasonal menu include “Fines de Claire” oysters; the Rossini Burger with tarragon mayonnaise, pan fried foie gras, and truffle; and Pan-seared sea bass with winter vegetables, lobster bisque reduction, and parsley. Other appetising options include selections of soup, salads and sandwiches – while main courses include fresh seafood and premium imported meats. Desserts are a speciality with standouts including the Molten bitter chocolate cake with orange déclinaison heart, salad, and sorbet; and the classic Slow baked apple “Tatin” with Sable Breton, port wine reduction, and vanilla ice-cream.
Beverage choices include fresh gourmet coffee and tea, French mineral water, wines, beer and a selection of refreshing cocktails.
La Terrasse is open daily from 11 am – table bookings are recommended for weekends and most evenings.
