Thai and regional Asian cuisines plus handcrafted cocktails in restored Chinese shophouse
February 16th, 2017
Elevated casual dining from one of Saigon’s leading restaurant groups (Tribe Hospitality) – The Racha Room serves modern interpretations of South East Asian cuisines – complemented by a well-stocked bar and accomplished craft cocktails. Set within a restored shophouse in the heart of the District 1 dining and bar precinct, the rustic-chic decor exudes a relaxed ambience that has made The Racha Room one of the city’s more popular destinations for sociable dining and drinks. Under the direction of Executive Chef and co-founder Chris Donnellan, the menu showcases his contemporary takes on Thai and regional cuisines. Set within a raw brick-walled and high-ceilinged interior space, the spacious layout accommodates simple wooden tables and banquette settings, bar seats, and a communal high table. A destination in its own right, the bar entices patrons with its approachable list of reinterpreted classic cocktails and modern mixology creations.
Food Locally sourced seasonal produce feature in the menu that draws influences from both regional street foods and traditional recipes. Dishes from the Street Foods selections include Spicy Thai Beef, mint, coriander and cucumber salad with roasted rice; and Peanut Satay Skewers with shallot cucumber pickle. And standouts from the Large Shared Plates include the Massaman Curry with potatoes and peanuts – try options such as Tiger Prawn and Mango, or US Beef short rib.
Drinks At the bar well-executed twists on classic cocktails and spice-influenced taste profiles are prominent on the drinks list. Must-try classic cocktails include the Barrel-aged Negroni and Racha Room Whisky Sour; while sophisticated complexity is found in drinks such as Forbidden Fruit with salted caramel-infused Vodka, Calvados, Midori, green apple and ginger; and Funky Monkey with barrel-aged Cutty Sark Whisky, Aperol, smoked chilli, cherry and ginger.
The Racha Room opens daily from 11:30am serving a good-value set lunch menu on weekdays, with dinner served nightly until late. Check out the Facebook Page for menu updates and details on culinary and bar promotions.
