Modern Asian dining, classic cocktails, vintage whiskies and live jazz at upscale venue in Hanoi
January 30th, 2018
Introducing a new concept of Modern Asian Dining to Hanoi, MAD Society opened within the new Somerset Westpoint Tay Ho luxury serviced apartment building in August 2017. Creative director and co-owner Ms So Yeon Kim, has taken familiar Vietnamese dishes and enhanced them with harmonious combinations of quintessential Asian spices and sauces such as Thai sriracha; Korean kimchi; and Vietnamese nuoc mam (fermented fish sauce). MAD Society entices with its new style Asia dining and socialising – with sophisticated drinks at the adjoining whisky and cocktail bar and regular live jazz. Decorated in a style inspired by Art Deco period European salons, but with a chic contemporary aesthetic highlighted by plush tan leather chairs, marble dining tables, blue velvet banquettes and polished brass trimmings.
Cuisine Dishes on the MAD Society menu feature a selection of Asian tapas style dishes that showcase the concept of modern Asian dining – with most dishes including at least three distinct yet complementary flavours. Dishes are also designed to be paired with wines – with a list of Asian Tapas style small bites. Standout dishes include the Chef’s Signature Bun Cha – pork marinated in Chef’s secret recipe, chargrilled with lemongrass, served with housemade nuoc mam sauce; Mini Banh Xeo – crispy pancakes with the familiar flavour of shrimps, meat, sprouts, carrot yarns; and Grilled Chicken with Kumquat-Lemongrass dressing, served with sweet chili sauce – an update on a familiar street dish.
Drinks At the MAD Society bar, a carefully constructed and attractively illustrated list of classic cocktails – categorised under spirit-type – with an emphasis on whisky-based cocktails. In addition to the polished cocktails, the bar also offers one of the largest selections of premium whiskies in Hanoi – with more than 200 varieties currently available. Adjacent to the main bar – and overlooking the outdoor pool deck – the Tiki Bar takes on a Polynesian theme with refreshing rum-based tiki cocktails ideal for hot summer evenings.
MAD Society opens daily from 11 am – serving lunch, dinner and drinks all day – and closing late. Regular promotions include a daily Happy Hour 50% off glass drinks promotion between 5 pm and 8 pm; and Jazzy Fridays with a live jazz band from 8 pm to 10 pm – with free cocktails for ladies. Details of other regular promotions such as Big Band Mini Concerts and Wine Society tastings can be found on the Facebook Page.
