Offshoot of acclaimed New York cocktail bar PDT (Please Don’t Tell) opens in Hong Kong
February 10th, 2018
Launched in February 2018, PDT Hong Kong faithfully replicates the concept of its iconic New York counterpart, offering Hong Kong’s cocktail aficionados the same creative cocktail experiences as the original PDT (Please Don’t Tell). Following a successful pop-up last year at the annual Masters of Mixology programme at The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, the collaboration has evolved into a permanent home for PDT within the hotel’s esteemed MO Bar. Occupying an intimate mezzanine space, guests at PDT experience the same distinctive speakeasy-luxe aesthetic of the globally acclaimed PDT New York, complete with signature cocktails created by the founders of PDT – Jim Meehan and Jeff Bell.
Following the tradition of the original Please Don’t Tell, entry to the Hong Kong bar is via an unmarked telephone booth door. Channeling the original PDT, local designer Nelson Chow complements the emblematic herringbone-patterned ceiling, gleaming copper bar, plush banquettes and idiosyncratic taxidermy with playful yet sophisticated elements that draw inspiration from Hong Kong’s unique urban vibe.
PDT Hong Kong‘s drinks list is highlighted by a selection of 15 cocktails – a mix of PDT classics plus new creations crafted for Hong Kong. Among the Hong Kong-inspired cocktails are the Milky Tea Punch: a tasteful combination of Ron Zacapa Centenario rum, Hennessy V.S.O.P cognac, Rickshaw tea, condensed milk, Taoyuan egg and Angostura bitters, and Big Fan – a refreshing mix of shandy, Cabeza tequila, lime juice, guava and Moonzen Fuijan radler. In addition to cocktails, a selection of regional beers, wines, and non-alcoholic drinks are available.
The PDT Hong Kong food menu features The Landmark Mandarin Oriental Culinary Director and Michelin-star chef Richard Ekkebus’s interpretations of classic American comfort foods, elevated with local Asian ingredients and flavours. Artisanal frankfurters, bacon-wrapped deep-fried pork dogs mixed with kimchi; and Okonomiyaki-style tots drizzled with shredded nori, scallions, and mayonnaise are among the highlights of the bar cuisine.
After the successful run of their Masters of Mixology programme in 2016, PDT has been foreseen to nest their much-lauded brand in Hong Kong. PDT Hong Kong marks the first PDT outside the Big Apple.
PDT Hong Kong is open from 5pm – 12:30am (Mon-Thu) and 5pm – 1am (Fri-Sat)
