Stylish yet unpretentious, The Bar Upstairs is a charismatic addition to Bangkok’s wine bar scene – located upstairs from the popular French restaurant Brasserie Cordonnier. A recently launched concept by the respected Soho Hospitality group (see also Soi 11 stalwarts Above Eleven and Charcoal Tandoor Grill), The Bar Upstairs offers an impressive cellar stocked with premium wines sourced from leading global winemakers – giving patrons the option of buying bottles for takeout – or enjoying the wines and classic French snacks (see snack list) in the spacious double-height lounge space created around the theme of an abandoned provincial farmhouse – the timber interior and furnishings overgrown with lush greenery.
The Bar Upstairs wine list showcases a frequently updated selection of at least 150 expertly curated wine labels. Within the main bar and lounge space – a separate wine shop allows patrons to purchase well-priced bottles to drink on-site or takeaway – wines can also be tasted before purchase. At the mezzanine level, monthly wine classes for small groups offer a more detailed insight into the selected wines. And in addition to the wine list – the bar also serves a concise garden-inspired, plant-based cocktails list with floral, fruity and refreshing taste profiles.
The Bar Upstairs’ wine menu is paired with selections of small bites and comfort food from Brasserie Cordonnier’s kitchen. A standout feature of the menu – the Chef’s Picnic Basket – is packed with an assortment of baguettes, homemade terrine, top quality imported cheeses, cold cuts – ideal for casual sharing with the wines.
The Bar Upstairs opens daily from 5 pm – with late closing on Friday and Saturday nights. Weekly themed promotion nights offer attractive deals.
