Elevated gin experiences with gin-based cocktails & Gin School at Singapore’s first micro-distillery
August 10th, 2019
Embracing the global trend for craft spirits that express the heritage of their locale, Brass Lion Distillery launched as Singapore’s first micro-distillery in September 2018. Utilising a traditional copper pot still and distilling techniques, Brass Lion Distillery launched with their first craft spirit – Brass Lion Singapore Dry Gin. Adding a selection of locally grown Southeast Asian botanicals such as kaffir lime leaves, pomelo peel, lemongrass, chrysanthemum, and blue ginger, the gin offers a distinctive profile of floral and citrus notes. Recently a second gin has been introduced – the Brass Lion Butterfly Pea Gin – a Dry Gin style spirit infused with butterfly pea flowers and lavender – the pea flowers contributing to the gin’s deep blue tint that becomes a soft lilac shade with the addition of tonic water or citrus.
Welcoming visitors, the stand-alone Brass Lion Distillery premises incorporates the working copper still, hand-bottling and labelling on the ground floor. Occupying the upper level are the in-house R&D lab; a spacious tasting room and bar plus retail corner; and the newly established Gin School. Offering a holistic gin experience – visitors can take a one-hour Distillery Tour (S$45) – or the 3-hour Gin School (S$198 – includes a 500ml bottle of personalised gin). At the Tasting Room bar – guests can taste the Brass Lion gins presented in a menu of cocktails and Gin & Tonics.
Participants at the Gin School will learn how to craft their own bottle of gin – working with a selection of botanicals to create their gin using individual mini-copper stills. The sessions include an introduction to gin and the distillation process – and how botanicals are combined to create well-balanced expressions. Bookings are required and can be made directly from the Brass Lion Distillery website.
The tasting room at Brass Lion Distillery opens Tuesday – Sunday (closed on Mondays) from 5 pm on weekdays and 2 pm on the weekend.
