Recently launched bar at the luxury hotel defines elegance and polished hospitality
September 14th, 2019
Recently launched within Beijing’s The Opposite House, UNION is the new destination bar at the acclaimed luxury urban hotel. Set within the vibrant Taikoo Li Sanlitun open-plan shopping, dining and entertainment destination developed by Swire Properties, The Opposite House was designed by celebrated Japanese designer Kengo Kuma – and exudes an elegant simplicity with its natural wooden floors and subtle touches of Chinese déco – while UNION bar – the creation of acclaimed New York design group AvroKO – takes its cues from a 1920’s Modernism aesthetic.
Occupying an expansive space with high ceilings, the interior encourages social engagements within a comfortably furnished decor that also showcases artworks, sculptures, and objets d’art. Natural timbers and full-height glass walls are highlighted with gleaming copper architectural frames, and metal mesh sheets. Take a seat at the dramatic main bar to engage with the bartenders, while for work, the adjacent long timber communal high tables fit the bill – and for relaxed socialising – well-spaced sofa and armchair settings flow seamlessly across from the main bar.
At the bar, a sophisticated drinks menu consists of extensive tea offerings, an extensive wine list, selections of alcohol-free drinks and a signature cocktail list. Inspired by both international tastes and local Chinese flavours, classic and signature cocktails are elevated with premium spirits, modern bartending and advanced culinary techniques – while a traditional bar trolley offers tableside service of non-shaken cocktails.
UNION opens daily from 11 am to 1 am – a carefully curated soundtrack featuring an eclectic mix of tempo, BPM, energy levels and genres enables a seamless transition from daytime into the night.
