Rooftop garden setting above vintage shophouses overlooks fashionable Chinatown laneway

As Bangkok’s Chinatown precinct enjoys its resurgence as a nightlife destination, fashionable and creative new bar openings have elevated the local cocktail scene. Among notable openings – Wallflowers Upstairs – launched in early 2018 – was conceived as a destination for relaxed social drinks and dining amid the retro-rustic aesthetic of the repurposed rooftop atop a pair of vintage shophouses. An offshoot of the popular Wallflowers Cafe set within the shophouse floors directly below – and the original street level florist shop, Wallflowers Upstairs offers an appealing balance of laid-back sophistication together with polished cocktails and casual dining.
Accessed via an internal steel spiral staircase the interior and rooftop spaces have been carefully stripped back to reveal raw brickwork, timber floors, complemented with an eclectic assemblage of retro furnishings. From the rooftop, views range across the characterful local neighborhood buildings and laneways.
At the well-stocked bar, guests can order from a list of signature cocktails – created with a focus on fruity flavours inspired by a “garden” theme. Taking fresh local fruits and herbs the bartenders have created drinks such as the Rosy Straight Blush – a combination of vodka, Aperol, watermelon, passion fruit, yuzu juice, and vanilla syrup. Other beverage options include non-alcoholic cocktails, wines, and beer. Meanwhile, the dining menu offers selections of international and Thai cuisines – with appetizing single dishes, sharing plates, and bar snacks.
Wallflowers Upstairs opens daily from 5:00 pm – closing after midnight.
