Multi-awarded specialist rum bar renowned for polished cocktails and vibrant hospitality

A prominent influence on the evolution of the local bar scene in KL since its launch in 2017, JungleBird opened a new chapter in its journey with the relocation in December 2020 into new premises. The much acclaimed rum-centric bar has been a fixture on the list of Asia’s 50 Best Bars since 2018 and now, a year after its reopening JungleBird has maintained its presence in Asia’s 50 Best Bars with a ranking of #37 in 2021 and recently at #35 on the 2022 list. Embracing its Malaysian heritage, the founding team of JungleBird have adopted the theme of “rumah rum” – meaning house of rum in the local Bahasa Melayu language. The well-stocked bar now showcases approximately 250 rum labels – thoughtfully curated to represent the global diversity of rum producers.
Discreetly located in a first-floor space within a row of commercial shophouses in the Damansara Heights residential neighbourhood, the new venue operates as an all-day destination for rum-based drinks plus casual bites from the in-house Sarong kitchen. Full-width windows across the frontage overlook the neighbourhood streetscape – bathing the interior with natural light during the day. Evoking a laid-back vibe, the decor closely follows the style of the original bar – with many of the bamboo and native timber furnishings recycled into the new space. Leather banquettes and bamboo furniture in the front section make for comfortable socialising and convivial conversations – while in the rear half of the open-plan floor space the large bamboo-faced bar is the vibrant heart of JungleBird.
The current cocktail menu ‘Rummin’ Round the World’ takes inspiration from classic and lesser-known beverages typical to key rum-producing nations. Drinks from the previous cocktail menu ‘Trains Planes & Automobiles’ celebrates countries and cities visited by the JungleBird team during the early years of the bar. While complementing the new signature cocktails is the list of ‘Perennial Favourites’ – representing the popular drinks from the previous 5 years.
JungleBird opens daily – from 12 pm on Wednesdays to Sundays, and from 4 pm on Monday and Tuesdays. Reservations for tables and bar seats are recommended.
