This week the list of Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2024, sponsored by Perrier, was revealed at a live awards ceremony at Rosewood Hong Kong. This year’s ranking features bars from 18 different destinations across Asia, from Macau to Manila. Making a meteoric entry to the list – Hong Kong’s Bar Leone debuted on the list with three awards – the Disaronno Highest New Entry Award 2024; The Best Bar in Hong Kong 2024; and The Best Bar in Asia 2024, sponsored by Perrier. Taking inspiration from the apertivo bars of Rome, the bar’s identity is grounded on the Italian concept of cocktail popolari, meaning cocktails for the people. Under the direction of its founder/bartender Lorenzo Antinori, Bar Leone delivers a beverage programme focused on classic, approachable cocktails, complemented by an eclectic soundtrack and classic Italian bar bites.

The top 5 bars for 2024 includes, in addition to No.1 Bar Leone – at No.2 intimate low-waste bar, Zest in Seoul, which has climbed three spots, making it The Best Bar in Korea. A consistent presence in the top five is Jigger & Pony in Singapore at No.3, making it The Best Bar in Singapore for the fifth year running. Last year’s top spot holder, Hong Kong bar Coa, came in at No.4; and at No.5 is Tokyo’s Bar Benfiddich, which took the title of The Best Bar in Japan.

Regional Highlights

Singapore topped the regional rankings with 11 bars awarded: Jigger & Pony at No.3; Nutmeg & Clove at No.6.; Sago House at No.15, and Night Hawk debuted at No.16. Offtrack, another new entry at No.25; Native climbed 11 places to No.31, and Origin, another new entrant at No.32,; with Analogue Initiative at No.35, followed by Employees Only at No.38. New entrant Fura came in at No.42, and finally Atlas at No.49.
Bangkok bars had four entries in the list: BKK Social Club at No.7; Vesper No.13; Mahaniyom Cocktail Bar No.18; and finally, Bar Us at No.21.
Japan’s five bars awarded included Tokyo bars No.5 Bar Benfiddich; Virtu at No.11; SG Club at No.23; and The Bellwood at No.43; while Osaka bar Craftroom was at No.28.
Hong Kong came away with 9 bars awarded: Bar Leone at No.1; three-times previous winner Coa at No.4; Argo at No.9; The Aubrey took the No. 10 spot; Darkside is at No.17; new entry The Savory Project at No.19; Penicillin at No. 24; Quinary at No.26; and finally, Mostly Harmless at No.45.
Seoul bars took 4 spots on the list – headed by Zest at the No.2 ranking. Other bars awarded included Bar Cham at No.20; Alice at No. 46; and Pine & Co at No.50.
Other standouts included Kuala Lumpur bars Penrose at No. 8 ; Bar Trigona at No. 36, and Reka at No.41; while Hanoi bar The Haflington was Vietnam’s only entry at No.47. Jakarta featured with two bars on the list: The Cocktail Club at No.12; and Pantja at No. 27.
