February 17th, 2012
The stunning form of a long, elliptically shaped, white steel “capsule” that appears to hover over an undefined gravel parking lot in central Bangkok houses the uniquely conceived BED SUPPERCLUB. A compelling combination of fashionable restaurant, performance art venue, art gallery and vibrant club, Bed Supperclub has been attracting a discerning, up-market clientele since its opening nearly 10 years ago in September 2002. The uber-stylish design, with minimalist white-on-white interiors, has been the stage for the innovative and unique lifestyle concept of entertainment and dining that has made Bed Supperclub the recipient of both local and international acclaim, and probably the iconic nightlife fixture in Bangkok. Regularly (every three months) updating the “dining in Bed experience” has been at the core of the enduring success of Bed, and the continued support of the many regular guests. Creative “themes” for the dining and entertainment are updated regularly- encompassing everything from specifically styled staff uniforms, to the interactive performance artists, art installations and music.
The cuisine at the Bed Restaurant is an innovative assemblage of both Western and Asian inspired dishes, designed and created by Chef Dan Ivarie. During the week diners can select from seasonal menus, and on Friday and Saturday nights the kitchen creates special surprise four course menus, paired with a scripted series of performances.
And at the Bed Bar, in the section behind the restaurant, nightly events are performed by resident and acclaimed international DJs. An integrated lighting, sound and projection system create the atmosphere for a night of sophisticated clubbing. Bed have been instrumental in raising the international profile of Bangkok as a destination for serious clubbers, and a packed schedule of headline international acts keeps Bed at the forefront of the Bangkok club scene. Weekly highlights include the Tuesday hip-hop nights, and the Models Night on Wednesdays- hosted by models – attracting the glamorous and beautiful of Bangkok.

The main restaurant section at Bed Supperclub is distinguished by the futuristic appearance of the curving walls and the minimalist white-on-white interiors. Extending along each side are the signature “beds” where guests kick off their shoes and lounge back on the soft divan mattresses and pillows whilst dining off white molded tray tables. A mezzanine level has a further series of divan style mattresses extending the full length of each side.
The central floor space is the focus for the themed performances that accompany each evening’s dinner service. And a DJ station is installed at the front end of the room- with a contemporary, sensual style of electronic music played by resident DJs.

Bed restaurant features regular theme changes- presenting interactive performers, singers, dancers and art. The theme at time of visit was “Bangkok ’69”- the era of the Vietnam War when Bangkok first experienced gogo girls, gigalos, GI’s, and also witnessed an astronaut on the Moon.

The style of cuisine is contemporary with both Western and Asian influences. Weeknights the menu features an eclectic selection of dishes including Appetizers, Soups & Salads, Main Courses and Desserts. Some highlights from the current seasonal menu include- Appetizers: Vegetable tempura of seasonal vegetables with daikon and ginger; Fried baby back pork ribs with coriander, black pepper and tamarind dipping sauce; and Beef rib roll skewers with sweet soy and coriander. The clubbing at Bed happens in the rear section of the structure that houses the Bed Bar. A smaller space than the restaurant, the Bed Bar has the intimate scale of exclusivity and sophistication. The interiors take on a sharper edge- with the white walls contrasted with black leather upholstered lounges and bar stools, and polished chrome railings. The main floor features the long bar down one side, and the large DJ booth commands the centre of the room, backdropped by a large projection screen. A mezzanine level features soft leather lounge seating along both sides, a section of transparent glass block flooring provides voyeuristic views of the dance floor below.
