Zouk first opened in Singapore back in 1991 and introduced a world class clubbing experience to the Singapore nightlife scene. Built on an impressive scale, Zouk occupies a row of three restored warehouses on the river front of central Singapore. An innovative concept for clubbing and nightlife, Zouk comprises four distinct “concept” clubs – each with a different decor and music concept- and with a combined capacity of 4,000 patrons.
Zouk has been embraced by generations of local and regional clubbers, and in the process evolved its own distinctive dance music subculture. Acclaimed internationally by both mainstream and dance culture media, Zouk has consistently been ranked among the Best Clubs in the World. The name “zouk” derives from the Creole word meaning “village party”. And the club’s guiding principle- stated simply as- “One World, One Music, One Tribe, One Dance”.
One of the unique features of Zouk has been the diversity of the different rooms within the overall complex- with each room having a distinctive decor theme and music style. In addition to the headline Zouk club room, the other rooms are Velvet Underground, Phuture, and the indoor / outdoor Wine Bar adjacent to the club main entrance. Originally a single room, Velvet Underground underwent a major refurbishment in 2011 and now consists of two separate rooms- Lounge and Dance – features luxurious contemporary furnishings, and original art collections in an exclusive Lounge setting, and the adjoining Dance room- fitted out for all-night partying and dancing.
In the photos below we take a tour inside the “new” Velvet Underground rooms at Zouk Singapore.

Lounge settings in the centre of the room- the low, dark ceiling creates an atmosphere of dark sensuality
The bar in the Lounge is formed from randomly stacked multi-colored glass blocks that are back-lighted with dramatic effect. An original Andy Warhol image of Chairman Mao overlooks the bar area.
