Sophisticated “underground” bar specialises in rare whiskies, classic cocktails and live jazz

Tucked into a compact space on the lower ground level of the boutique The Club Hotel in Singapore’s historic Chinatown district, B28 was conceptualised by founder and owner Mike Soldner as becoming one of Singapore premier whisky bars when it first opened in mid 2011. Nearly two years later and B28 has firmly established itself in the upper echelons of the local bar scene and has garnered an appreciation among a knowledgeable and discerning clientele for both its extraordinary collection of whiskies, and sublime mixology.
The intimate proportions of the subterranean space, together with its solid dark timber beam ceiling, luxurious decor and sultry lighting create an underground club atmosphere of exclusivity and sophistication. An exclusive (limited t0 30 active members at one time) members program at B28 provides members with a private bottle locker (pre-stocked with selected whiskies), a personal door key, and special bottle discounts. Seating just 35 guests, B28 excels with a high level of personal service from knowledgeable bartenders, and offers whisky aficionados in particular the pleasures of an exceptional collection of over 100 single malt Scotch whiskies, plus selections of the best official distillery releases.
Supplementing the impressive whisky program are a well-crafted list of classic cocktails, and a special collection of over 20 aged dark rums, including Pyrat XO Reserve, Plantation Guadeloupe Old Réserve 1998, English Harbour 25YO 1981, El Dorado Rum 21YO, and Clément Rhum Vieux Vintage 1970. Other beverages served include wines, champagne and craft beers. The premium libations are fittingly served in top of the range crystal glassware from Schott Zwiesel.
In addition to the exquisite drinks, B28 also enthusiastically embraces jazz music, the weekly Weekend Jazz sessions feature live performances by local and international guest artists. LCD screens around the bar continuously play old film footage of famous jazz musicians and concerts. Details of the upcoming Weekend Jazz events are posted to the B28 Facebook Page .
The B28 concept is about to extend its presence internationally, with a second B28 outlet about to open in the uber-fashionable Gangnam nightlife district of Seoul. Also located in a basement space, and specialising in whisky, the new B28 Seoul will feature, additionally, a sashimi menu, large cigar collection, and a private members room.

The distinctly shaped, illuminated bar counter provides the visual centrepiece of the bar. LCD screens play vintage films of classic jazz artists.
An upright piano and drum kit facilitate the live jazz performances every weekend by local and international professional artists.
Table settings feature luxurious cream leather armchairs, with a dramatic high backed banquette across the mirrored back wall.
