Tantalising cocktails at acclaimed Hong Kong bar

UPDATE: Wyndham the 4th has closed late 2014
Exemplifying the international renaissance of a glamorous cocktail culture that has seen a plethora of smart new cocktail haunts opened in major global cities, one of the stand-out new openings in Hong Kong recently has been Wyndham The 4th. Opened just over twelve months ago, Wyndham The 4th has rapidly garnered a reputation in the uber-competitive bar scene in Hong Kong as one of the city’s leading exponents of a refined cocktail drinking experience- offering accomplished technique, premium quality spirits and creative innovation.
Intriguingly ensconced on the fourth floor of a nondescript building on Wydham Street- within the epicentre of the vibrant nightlife precinct that now extends all the way up from Lan Kwai Fong and along Wyndham Street and Hollywood Road, Wyndham The 4th was inspired in part by the speakeasy concept of unrevealed location and discrete access. Unveiled beyond an unassuming entrance on the 4th floor is a tastefully designed contemporary lounge and bar. Stylish and idiosyncratic- yet not pretentious- conceived as a destination for cocktail aficionados to enjoy the masterful drinks served in an atmosphere of relaxed sophistication and sociable conviviality. In addition to the interior bar and lounge spaces, Wyndham The 4th also boasts a delightful outdoor terrace- comfortably spacious and a terrific setting for evening drinks.
With cocktails to the forefront at Wyndham The 4th, the bar has set an impressive benchmark in Hong Kong mixology circles- with Tom Wood, the original head bartender at Wyndham The 4th, taking out the inaugural Diageo Reserve World Class Hong Kong Bartender of the Year in 2012 (just prior to the opening of the bar). And the accomplishment was repeated again this year, when Wyndham The 4th bartender Ricky Liau won the 2013 title from a very competitive field of finalists, and with current Bar Manager, John Ng, claiming the First Runner Up position. A truly remarkable achievement for the newly established bar.
The cocktail program is grounded on an appreciation of classic, simple drinks- expertly crafted from premium and artisan spirits. The repertoire of the Wyndham The 4th bartenders range from contemporary craft creations, re-interpreted classics from long forgotten recipes, and bespoke cocktails tailored to customer requests. In addition to the cocktails, the bar also serves an enticing selection of champagne, fine wine, vintage whiskeys, boutique and craft beers and more.
With a carefully managed entry policy- the bar is never overcrowded- consequently a call in advance to make a reservation is always a good idea. Wyndham The 4th is open Monday to Saturday evenings from 8:00 pm.
