Handsome restaurant & bar at newly opened The Westin Singapore specialises in craft beers & classic pub fare.
February 4th, 2014
Newly opened in late 2013, The Westin Singapore occupies the upper floors within one of the office towers of the prestigious Asia Square development in Singapore’s Marina Bay financial district. Accessed via a broad staircase from the spectacular 32nd floor lobby, Cook & Brew is a new dining concept development by Westin- making its global debut in Singapore. Taking its cue from perennially popular gastropubs, Cook & Brew exudes an old-school gentleman’s club vibe, albeit with a modern thread of relaxed-luxe. Serving modern updates on classic pub dishes and snacks, tastefully combining with an impressive selection of over 100 beer labels, Cook & Brew is not just another hotel bar for in-house guests, but an enticing drinks and dining destination in its own right, and already becoming a favoured haunt with workers from nearby office towers.
THE DESIGN
Taking advantage of its elevated perch, the expansive space offers superb views through the floor to ceiling glass on two sides- with an outlook that encompasses the nearby coastline and Marina Bay precinct. A narrow open-air terrace extends across the front of the main room offering a small number of outdoor tables. Replete with warm timber paneling, a long black marble-topped bar, luxurious leather sofas and armchairs on unpolished wood floors, Cook & Brew exudes the relaxed ambience of a traditional pub, albeit in a contemporary iteration. In addition to the spacious main bar and lounge area, a separate dining section occupies the far corner of the floorspace.
DRINKS & FOOD
The selection of dishes served at Cook & Brew comprises an appealing combination of local comfort dishes and modern renditions of classic pub food. An on-trend bar menu of Small Bites offers a compact selection of gourmet snacks for sharing at the bar, and the A la Carte Menu for the dining room features a thoughtful assemblage of reasonably priced dishes, with signature dishes including The Burger (S$19); Steak & Eggs (all-day breakfast S$15); Sushi Bowl (S$16) ; Chili Fried Chicken (half bird S$18 / whole S$25).; and “Local Delight”- Hot and Sour Seafood Pot (S$27).
Beers are the headline attraction of the bar- with an impressive selection of over 100 international beer labels- many sourced from a diversity of small batch craft brewers in countries ranging from USA, UK, Japan, Switzerland, Belgium, to Australia and New Zealand. Bottle prices range from S$8 for local labels to $22, with most imported bottles in the S$12 -16 range. Attractively priced (between S$8 – 11 pint) draft beers on tap include Tiger, Heineken, Kirin, Erdinger, Guinness, and Kilkenny. In addition to the beer selection, Cook & Brew have installed the popular Enomatic Wine Dispenser system, allowing guests to use pre-paid cards for self-service of 16 different wines by the glass. The well-stocked bar serves a wide range of premium spirits, single malts and whiskeys, plus a concise range of signature cocktails.
Cook & Brew opens Monday to Friday from 11 am, and on Saturdays from 6 pm (Sundays closed).
Reservations are recommended in the evenings for dinner; and private parties and corporate events can be accommodated in several sections of the dining room.
Cook & Brew design
The main bar space impresses with its generous proportions and contemporary interpretation of a classic pub. The long, black marble topped bar counter is fronted by luxurious red leather bar stools, while opposite in the “lounge” area, leather Chesterfields and armchairs evoke a traditional pub lounge.
Sports fans are well catered for at Cook & Brew- with a series of screens mounted behind the bar- and the showpiece- a massive 90 inch HD screen wall-mounted at one end of the room- offers unparalleled viewing quality.
A separate dining section is located at the far end of the bar- the handsome space features a plush full length black leather banquette combined with traditional pub-style timber dining chairs.
