Recently opened in south Jakarta- offshoot of the celebrated UNION brasserie, bakery & bar
May 5th, 2014
At the forefront of brasserie-style dining in Jakarta since its opening in 2011, UNION has won over chic Jakarta urbanites with its accomplished cuisine and relaxed conviviality. An inspired collaboration from the team behind the acclaimed LOEWY bar and restaurant, and celebrated young local chefs Adhika Maxi and Karen Carlotta, UNION first opened at the upmarket Plaza Senayan mall back in 2011. Subsequently, in September 2013, a second branch was opened in South Jakarta, catering to the residents of the affluent surrounding neighbourhood.
Occupying a generously proportioned street level space at the lifestyle-centric Street Gallery zone of the massive Pondok Indah mall, UNION features both an elegant indoor dining room and bar counter, plus an open air terrace section that spans the street front facade. In addition to its contemporary yet authentic brasserie cuisine, UNION further entices with both its renowned in-house bakery, and first-class cocktail bar.
UNION opens daily from 11am until late, serving the complete menu continuously for true all-day dining.

UNION interior
Referencing the style of classic early 20th Century New York brasseries – UNION exudes a comfortable familiarity with its understated, simple and classic interior of unpolished timber and mosaic tile flooring, pressed metal ceilings, walls surfaced with white tiles, and timber cafe style chairs, matched with dark timber tables topped with white paper sheets.
UNION cocktails
Innovative mixology is a hallmark of the polished drinks program at UNION- evolved from the award winning mixology first introduced at LOEWY- and subsequently transplanted to both branches of UNION. An extensive drinks list offers well-crafted selections of Classic Cocktails such as Negroni, Moscow Mule, & Mint Julep; Twisted Classics such as the Deconstructed Pina Colada- Ron Zacapa, coconut water, pineapple chunks, and bitters with coconut sorbet; and the creative Signature Cocktails like the Truffle Popcorn Martini- made with candy corn infused Ketel one, caramel syrup, sprayed with truffle oil.
UNION brasserie cuisine
Inspired by the enduring popularity of classic brasserie-stye dining, Head Chef Adhika Maxi has created an appetising assemblage of dishes drawn from both Western and Asian cuisines- masterfully reinterpreted with interesting combinations of ingredients and flavours- and cooked with contemporary techniques. Chef Adhika has deployed his extensive international cooking experience at high profile establishments to bring a refined yet accessible dining experience to Jakarta. Standout dishes that exemplify this approach include- Salmon Wonton Ravioli, with garlic, tomato and olive confit; Fennel-Crusted Pork Belly, with crispy pork rinds, pomme purée and honey mustard vinaigrette; and the specialty from the Grill selections- Sher Blue Label Wagyu Sirloin Grade 9+, served with pomme purée, black truffle jus and roast vegetables.
Also notable at the new UNION is the inclusion of a wood-fired pizza oven- offering diners a variety of gourmet pizzas such as The Meatpacking District– with Beef Sausage, Beef Bacon, Bresaola, Red Onion & Chilli.
The UNION Bakery, under the direction of Head Pastry Chef Karen Carlotta, offers a tantalising selection of daily baked breads and pastries. Attractively showcased at the main entrance area, the array of breads, pastries plus the celebrated cakes, tarts and pies, are available either for take out orders, or for consuming at the restaurant.
