The rooftop of the iconic Centara Grand hotel tower at the CentralWorld complex in Bangkok is the location for the stylish Red Sky Bistro and Bar.
The outstanding dynamic architectural design of the Centara Grand tower has the concept of layered concentric circles with an external framework shaped at the top with elongated arches to resemble the image of a blooming lotus flower. The building is the third highest in Thailand and from the 55th floor rooftop provides spectacular 360 degree views across the entire Bangkok skyline.
The Red Sky Bistro opened in 2008 and was followed in 2009 with the addition of the Red Sky Bar on the upper level overlooking the bistro area.
The space at Red Sky Bar encompasses an open area of seating and standing around the perimeter of the central core of the building tower. Timber flooring, with faux rattan chairs and lounges for relaxed “chill out” viewing of the stunning views over the sprawling Bangkok metropolis. Chest height glass barriers provide a windbreak against the sometimes strong winds experienced at these heights. The bar is accessed up an open stairway from the main entry on the 55th floor level- and the main serving bar is located at the landing area at the top of the stairs. A jazz band plays nightly from a stage overlooking the bistro and martini bar on the level below. There is a smaller indoor bar area which provides an air-conditioned space- and also shelter in the event of rain.
At either end of the building are the towering external frameworks- which with color changing LED lighting- provide a stunning aspect to the views.
The bar is serving a full range of spirits, wines, champagnes, cocktails and beers- and the happy hours between 5pm and 7 pm are always popular- and a great time to catch the sunsets over Bangkok with a relaxing drink. The martini bar has “signature” cocktails unique to the Bangkok bar scene- martinis with a foam cap- for example the passionfruit martini comprises a mix of super premium vodka, passion fruit, lychees, mint and a foam cap. Other flavours include chocolate martini and expresso martini.
A range of bar snacks are also available at the bar area, and full dining options at the Red Sky Bistro at the level below.
The Red Sky Bistro has a large open area for dining- plus two circular pods protuding out into the sky for incomparable views- with a small number of tables- which can also function as “private areas” for small groups. And underneath the towering arch is the long glass fronted and lighted Martini Bar- which provides another option for either pre or post-dinner cocktails.
The bistro menu is based on a western “urban” approach to cuisine- with charcoal grilled meats, plus seafood and poultry, pasta. Desserts are also a specialty of the chefs.
A comprehensive selection of wines are available from a unique two storey open glass wine cellar located inside near the lift lobby reception area.
Red Sky Bistro and Bar offer the visitor or local patron a spectacular setting for stylish dining and entertainment- but with a casual unpretentious atmosphere.
Probably best to make bookings as Red Sky has quickly become very popular.
