Jakarta’s only microbrewery restaurant serving fresh Paulaner brews and contemporary Bavarian cuisine
April 28th, 2014
Paulaner Brahaus microbreweries and restaurants- originally launched in Munich- enjoy considerable popularity globally, and particularly in the major Asian cities where they have been established for a number of years- including Singapore, Shanghai, and Beijing. In Jakarta, Paulaner Brauhaus first opened in 2010 – and having outgrown the original premises- have relocated in mid-2013 into a larger space within the Grand Indonesia Mall complex in central Jakarta. The successful Paulaner Brauhaus concept cleverly captures the essence of Bavarian lifestyle and hospitality- famous for their large scale beer halls and exuberant social dining atmosphere.
Paulaner Brauhaus Jakarta, operated by Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta, opens daily, serving lunch and dinner, and drinks late into the night. Nightly live entertainment performed by the resident band adds an upbeat atmosphere to the evening dining experience.
Promotions and events are updated regularly on the Paulaner Brauhaus Jakarta Facebook Page.
Paulaner Brauhaus interior
One of the design hallmarks of Paulaner Brauhaus are the gleaming large cooper kettles that stand behind the distinctive copper-covered bar counter and beer fonts. Raw brickwork, unpolished timber floors and dark timber furniture reference the traditional rustic Bavarian beerhalls. An open-air terrace provides additional seating at both sofa settings and high tables- all which enjoy panoramic views of the landmark “Welcome Indonesia” roundabout. The spacious restaurant comfortably seats up to 400 guests across the indoor and outdoor spaces, with a private dining room also available.
Paulaner Brauhaus Bavarian cuisine & freshly brewed beers
Paulaner beer- first brewed by monks in Munich back in 1634- has proven popular in Jakarta, with the fresh, distinctive tastes and natural ingredients that comply with the strict stipulations of the German Purity Law of 1516. All Paulaner beers are brewed from just four natural ingredients- malt, hops, yeast and water, and served fresh and unfiltered directly through the bar taps. In Jakarta Paulaner Brauhaus continuously brew two beers- Munich Lager, and Munich Dark- under the expert supervision of Brewmaster Arie Susanto- who after studying brewing at the prestigious Technische Universitat Munchen became the only Indonesian professional brewmaster. In addition to their regular beers, Paulaner introduce special beers brewed twice to three times a year on a seasonal basis- typically beers to celebrate Salvator, Maibock and Oktoberfest.
Authentic Bavarian cuisine is cooked under the direction of Swiss Master Butcher Patrik Quinter- the hearty fare perfectly complementing the freshly brewed, natural Paulaner beers. Among the notable dishes are the Crispy Pork Knuckle Schweinshaxe with Sauerkraut; Home-Made Sausage Specialties such as Nuremberger, Vienna and Debrecener; Schnitzel “Wiener Art”– Breaded Pork Escalope “Vienna Style” with homemade potato salad; and sharing platters such as Bavarian Sausage Platter, and Bavarian Cheese Board. A selection of local and international dishes are also available in addition to the authentic Bavarian cuisine.
