Characterful salon in historic Hanoi quarter combines cafe and bar with performance and art spaces.
November 9th, 2015
Established in Hanoi since 2008, cafe-bar Tadioto relocated in early 2014 to its current home within the historic neighbourhood adjacent to the Opera House and legendary Metropole Hotel. Already highly esteemed by an eclectic and clued-in clientele of local creatives and international visitors, the convenient accessibility of the “new” Tadioto entices a wider following with its charismatic combination of all-day cafe and cocktail bar – set within an idiosyncratic interior that also functions as an intimate art and performance space. Created and owned by well-known Vietnamese-American Nguyen Qui Duc, Tadioto represents the confluence of his multifarious interests – extending from journalism and writing, to interior design and hospitality. Open all day from early morning until after midnight, Tadioto impresses with its simple but well-executed menu of cafe fare, and short-but-sharp selection of classic and seasonal specialty cocktails.
Design Behind the distinctive facade highlighted by traditional bold red metal doors, the dimly lit interior of Tadioto reveals a series of interconnected, atmospheric rooms. A pared-back decor of concrete rendered walls, salvaged timbers and zinc-sheathed bar counters is elevated by an eclectic assemblage of hand-crafted objet d’art, vintage furniture and bold artwork. Exuding a relaxed and inviting vibe, the various spaces are conducive for small gatherings, quiet discussions and casual dining.
Cafe food Executive Chef Hugo Barberis has assembled a tapas & cafe menu featuring a compact selection of classic tapas, together with a seasonally updated selection of well-executed European comfort dishes. Examples from the tapas selections include the Chickpeas Spread with chickpeas, tomato tartar & zucchini, rice crackers; and Pastrami with blue cheese on toast, lime, zucchini. Other satisfying options include sandwiches, breakfast muesli, pasta, cheeses, and sweets.
Cocktails At the bar, cocktails are well-balanced, with a focus on seasonal fruits combined with premium and craft spirits. A concise collection of signature and classic cocktails is regularly updated with seasonal creations, while other beverages include local coffees, seasonal milkshakes and fruit juices, international wines, single malts and premium spirits.
Tadioto opens daily between 8 am and midnight. The Tadioto Facebook Page lists updates for upcoming exhibitions and events.
