Cult Danish craft brewery launches in Singapore – iconic bar offers 20 international craft beers on tap

The new location on the 2nd floor at 7 Purvis street offers expanded indoor and outdoor seating, plus wider selections of bottled beers and food.
Co-founded in Denmark by maths and physics teacher – and beer geek – Mikkel Borg Bjerso, Mikkeller has grown from home-kitchen experimental brews in 2006 to an internationally acclaimed craft beer brand with a global footprint. Mikkeller currently export their micro-brewed beers to over 40 countries, while a network of Mikkeller Bars has expanded beyond their Copenhagen home to Spain, Iceland, California, and Asia – Seoul, Bangkok and most recently – Singapore. Mikkeller’s innovative beer recipes use the best available ingredients and are mostly brewed at a Belgium family-owned microbrewery, supplemented by collaborations with innovative microbreweries in both Belgium and the USA. For the April 2016 launch of Mikkeller Bar Singapore, the Danish microbrewery has teamed up with leading local craft beer distributor The Drinking Partners to open the quirky bar within the arts and creative enclave clustered around Prinsep Street.
Design Sharing an undeveloped open space with the independent arts and creative photography cooperative Deck, the Mikkeller Bar is housed within one of a series of stacked refurbished shipping containers arranged across the open space. Inside the container, a typically minimalist Scandinavian decor is centred on the blonde timber bar and its array of signature Mikkeller tap handles, with a few seats at one end. A visual highlight is the idiosyncratic Mikkeller graffiti art mural painted across the full-height glass front. Outdoors across from the bar, timber bench tables evoke traditional European beer hall drinking.
Craft Beers A constantly updated selection of 25 fresh craft beers are available on tap – with two special “Singapore” beers ( Prinsep Pilsner and Bugis Brown) created especially for the new bar and always on tap. A large chalkboard lists the beers currently served , while the knowledgeable bartenders can recommend specific craft beers to suit taste preferences. Beers are served in quality glassware – either as pints or 1/2 pints. In addition to Mikkeller’s own beers, craft beers on tap are sourced from international partner microbreweries, offering Singapore’s craft beer aficionados an outstanding variety of innovative and tasteful brews to quaff.
