Local Hong Kong-brewed craft beers served on tap at vibrant neighbourhood-style bar in Central
November 24th, 2016
A popular addition to Hong Kong’s burgeoning craft beer scene, 65 Peel opened in March 2016 on its namesake street in the hip SOHO neighbourhood of Central. Serving a curated selection of both bottled and draft beers representing the diversity of Hong Kong’s independent craft brewers, 65 Peel attracts a nightly crowd to its unpretentious setting and convivial vibe. Complemented by an accomplished menu of Western and Cantonese-inspired, mostly gastropub bites, the bar is a favourite destination for sociable dining in addition to simply quaffing the local brews.
Design Occupying an unassuming double-fronted space – simply identified by a pair of neon signs – the bar interior opens out seamlessly onto the pavement steps. Employing a pared-back industrial design aesthetic, distressed concrete walls are accented with decorative neon installations, while original retro elements such as the folding-back steel doorway grilles reference the local heritage. The generously proportioned white-tiled bar counter dominates the room – while the utilitarian furniture includes communal table settings as well as high tables and wall counters.
Beers An impressive array of gleaming stainless steel beer taps pours a seasonal rotation of 12 different local brews with a variety of popular craft beers styles such as IPA’s, wheat ales, and stouts that offer taste profiles ranging from full-bodied malts to citrusy and tropical fruity – with a style to please all palates. Popular local craft beers are sourced from stand-out brewers such as Moonzen Brewery, Kowloon Bay Brewery, Lion Rock Brewery and Hong Kong Beer Brewery, while a well-constructed list of imported bottled beers adds variety with labels primarily from Hong Kong, UK, Australia, USA and NZ.
Bar Food Recently refreshed, the new bar menu of elevated gastropub-style dishes includes standouts like the Lobster Hotdogs and Deep Fried Wanton, while Western bar bites include Beef Tartare and 20-hour Slow Roasted Suckling Pig.
65 Peel opens daily between 4pm and 2am – check the Facebook Page for updates on events.
