Modern Mexican cuisine and bold agave-spirit cocktails at offshoot of Melbourne-founded restaurant
December 6th, 2016
Touche Hombre is an authentic Mexican restaurant and bar concept originating from Australia that has proven wildly successful in its laneway home in central Melbourne. In their first expansion, the Touche Hombre founders – in partnership with Bangkok’s local Sapparot Group (Rocket Cafe, UNCLE and Lady Brett) – have taken a prime location at the new 72 Courtyard dining and bar complex in Thonglor to establish Touche Hombre Bangkok in June 2016. An authentic, market-driven Mexican menu inspired by traditional Mexican street fare is complemented by a bold bar program grounded on an impressive assemblage of agave spirits. Exuding a hip vibe that channels the Latino street-art culture of Los Angeles, the twin-level space buzzes nightly with a typically good-looking Thonglor crowd, while weekend nights are upbeat with DJs on the decks.
Design Touche Hombre successfully melds a contemporary chic decor with artful touches that celebrate the vibrancy of Latino-inspired street art. Murals created by noted Austrian urban art and graffiti illustrator Nychos are splashed across the walls of both levels, while neon installations add a retro 80’s element. The main level encompasses the bar, indoor dining at red leather booths, and open-air settings on the expansive outdoor terrace area, while the cozy mezzanine level offers a cool, laid-back dining setting.
Cuisine The Touche Hombre menu is rooted in authentic Mexican cooking and techniques as expressed through items like fresh hand-pressed tortillas and specialty dishes such classic Mexican sweet corn served street style, guacamole with lime and jalapeños, buratta salad, baja tacos (market fish and chipotle mayo), and Spanish octopus with chorizo.
Cocktails An extensive beverage list highlights Mexican flavours and seasonal ingredients in reinterpreted classic cocktails designed by the acclaimed Sapparot mixology team. With a deep selection of tequila and mezcal from small-batch and artisan Mexican distillers, cocktails are both sophisticated and bold in flavour.
Touche Hombre Bangkok is open daily – serving dinner and drinks from 6pm on weekdays – with brunch a popular hit on the weekends. Check out the Facebook Page for events and promotions.
