East-meets-West speakeasy bar near Hanoi Opera House entices with cocktails and vibrant music
June 22nd,2018
Probably the most authentic speakeasy bar in Hanoi, Kumquat Tree opened in late 2017 in the heart of the historic Hoan Kiem district. Occupying the upper levels of a traditional shophouse building in a nondescript laneway near the Hanoi Opera House, entry to Kumquat requires guests to enter a passcode (try messaging the Kumquat Tree Facebook Page) into the lock of the street-level red timber door before proceeding up a staircase to the main bar. Highly rated for both well-crafted cocktails and a vibrant underground music program – Kumquat Tree attracts a fashionable crowd of Hanoi locals and in-the-know travellers who party late into the night.
Designed with a distinctly traditional Asian aesthetic – accented with Western influences, the spacious timber interior extends across the main bar and dance space – with an upper-level lounge area popular with small groups and for a discrete tete-a-tete.
At the bar, the focus is on carefully crafted signature cocktails – with premium spirits and wines also served. A highlight from the drinks list are the 10 signature cocktails created by the talented local bartenders.
