February 20th, 2019
Update: June 2020 – Six Senses Maxwell has closed permanently due to COVID
After completion of the inspired restoration by renowned French architect and designer Jacques Garcia of a heritage listed Art Deco-era building in the historic Tanjong Pagar district of Singapore, Six Senses Maxwell opened in early 2019. Together with nearby sister property Six Senses Duxton – the combined properties known as Six Senses Singapore – became the first city hotel by the globally renowned luxury resort and spa brand. In addition to 138 exquisitely designed and decorated rooms – Six Senses Maxwell houses two restaurants and three bars. Adjoining the street level lobby, Cook & Tras Social Library features an expansive series of spaces – offering a sophisticated bar service – complemented by an all-day menu of small share dishes.
A masterfully executed interior design recreates a classic library aesthetic – complete with extensive timber bookcases which delineate semi-private spaces that blend harmoniously into the open social bar space. A professionally curated collection of more than 3,000 titles endorses the library credentials, while plushly furnished armchairs add a luxurious glamour to the library-themed decor. A combination of seating options includes well-spaced sofa and table settings, seats at a central communal table, and at the bar offer comfortable options for either discrete discussions or convivial social encounters.
Behind the impressive 20-metre long bar counter, head bartender Ricky Paiva (previously heading up the Manhattan Bar) has created a concise selection of signature cocktails and bespoke libations from the bar’s expertly-assembled library of premium and small-batch spirits, wines, and craft beers.
Cook & Tras serves an all-day menu of healthy small sharing dishes that reference the local hawker culinary heritage. An extensive list of premium Asian teas, fresh squeezed cold juices – together with energizing healthy beverages, homemade tonics and kombuchas – synonymous with the wellness experiences that are the hallmark of Six Senses experience – are served throughout the day.
Cook & Tras Social Library is located at the street level of Six Senses Maxwell– the bar is open daily from 11:o0 am to midnight.
