Well-executed cocktails and sophisticated lounge vibe at Japanese inspired bar in central Saigon
May 12th, 2019
Located down a nondescript alleyway in Saigon’s District 1, Irusu Lounge is a new Japanese-inspired bar from the Eight Four Collective – the partnership behind stand-out venues Sake Central Saigon (upscale sake bar), and Renkon – a modern izakaya eatery and bar. Taking its name from the Japanese word meaning – “to pretend not to be home when someone knocks at your door”- entry from the laneway reveals a compact two-level space offering refined drinks and a sophisticated lounge ambiance that highlights hip-hop, R&B, and soul classics. With an intimate and discreet vibe, Irusu attracts a discerning local and in-the-know international clientele.
The narrow entrance stairway opens onto the first-floor bar – a compact “L-shaped” space with a stylishly contemporary decor of black and brass highlighted furnishings and stunning Yakuza tattoo images, while an impressive bar counter spans one side of the space. A further flight of stairs leads to the semi-open rooftop terrace that overlooks the landmark Notre Dame of Saigon cathedral.
At the bar, an expertly curated cocktail list features specialty signature cocktails crafted with seasonal ingredients and advanced mixology technique; refreshing highball; Japanese whiskeys; and elevated versions of the classic cocktails. Consistent with leading Japanese bars, Irusu serves its drinks in specialty glassware, with hand-carved crystal ice and meticulous preparation.
Complementing the beverages, Irusu also serves a Japanese tapas menu of sharing dishes.
Irusu opens daily from 5:30 pm until late. With limited seating, Irusu has a selective door policy.
