Neighborhood cocktail bar with a focus on tropical decor & adventurous rum-based cocktails
August 13th, 2019
As Bangkok’s cocktail bar scene has gone from strength to strength in recent years, two locally-based, Swedish bartenders have created a destination for exploring advanced rum cocktails amid a playful setting of tropical plants and island paraphernalia. Industry veterans Philip Stefanescu and Sebastian De la Cruz have put together a talented young team of local mixologists that turn out an impressive range of tropical-influenced cocktails. Since opening in late 2017, Tropic City has garnered numerous international and local industry awards – confirming the bar’s standing at the forefront of Bangkok’s cocktail scene.
Located among a cluster of creatives in the rapidly gentrifying Charoen Krung neighborhood of central Bangkok, Tropic City occupies a spacious setting with both the main indoor bar and outdoor terrace. Retro mid-century timber furniture is set amidst a bright and colorful tropical-themed decor – highlighted with floral murals – creating a relaxed atmosphere for enjoying drinks with friends.
Refreshing renditions of tropical-influenced cocktails are the mainstay at Tropic City. The recently released new cocktail menu is headlined by a strong assemblage of signature cocktail creations that showcase the creativity of the bar team. Cocktails are crafted from a wide variety of tropical fruits, vegetables, herbs, and spices – combined with premium quality rums (and other spirits) – and modern bartending techniques such as infusions, clarifying and fat washing. In addition to the well-crafted cocktails, Tropic City serves a curated selection of aged premium rums, while sharing punches made with a spirit bottle of choice – mixed seasonal fruits – are also popular.
Tropic City opens Tuesday to Sunday from 7:00 pm. Watch out on the Facebook Page for special events and bar takeovers.
