The maritime trading heritage of Boat Quay referenced within intricately themed spaces

Recently opened within Singapore’s Boat Quay heritage precinct, Barbary Coast takes inspiration from its 19th-Century namesake harbourfront district in San Francisco. Occupying the lower two levels within three cojoined historic Boat Quay shophouses the combination of venues features two distinct bar concepts and drinking experiences – Deadfall on the lower level has been created as a relaxed – rustic “every-day” neighborhood bar that was common within the original Barbary Coast in San Francisco. In contrast, the upper-level Barbary Coast Ballroom – exudes an elaborately constructed period elegance and exclusivity.
Owned and operated by industry veterans Celia Schoonraad and Michael Callahan, the concepts within Barbary Coast was inspired by the bars along San Francisco’s waterfront during the mid-1800s – where sailors and locals frequented a lively array of bars, dance halls, and concert saloons. Within the two-level space, Deadfall is the destination for laid-back drinks with its rustic bar interior and well-priced cocktails, beers, and other drinks. Meanwhile, on the upper level – the Barbary Coast Ballroom space welcomes guests with its intricately styled plush period decor and sophisticated vibe – serving creative cocktails and top-shelf spirits.
Deadfall opens Monday to Saturday from 4 pm – closed on Sundays – while Barbary Coast Ballroom opens Monday to Saturday from 6 pm.
