New bar by Jigger & Pony group highlights meld of Japanese bartending and Singaporean hospitality
March 27th, 2020
Introducing a unique cocktail bar concept to the vibrant Singapore hospitality scene – Live Twice launched in late 2019. Embracing a retro theme the bar deftly melds Western and Japanese bartending styles within an intimate space for just 40 guests. The bar interior takes its design cues from the bars that emerged in 1960’s Tokyo – in particular within the famous Ginza entertainment district. The accomplished Jigger & Pony team behind the new bar have created interpretations of vintage cocktails executed with classic Japanese bartending craft – combined with contemporary Singaporean cocktail and hospitality influences.
Located in a restored clan house in Chinatown, Live Twice joins sibling venues Humpback and Gibson Bar – in creating an engaging cluster offering a variety of experiences – casual dining and drinks at Humpback or the elegance and polished cocktail service at Gibson. Live Twice occupies an intimate, dimly lit space – that replicates the vibe of mid-century Tokyo – with plywood paneled walls, custom-built bar counters, and vintage fittings.
With a nod to the classic James Bond theme song “You Only Live Twice” the concise 14-drink cocktail list is headlined by another Bond icon – the Vesper cocktail. Inspired by the heritage of Japanese cocktails and bartending – all drinks are created with a minimalist approach that eschews any excess result in bold, spirit-forward cocktails. For the Vesper, principal bartender Yinying Leow creates her interpretation with a combination of Tempus Fugit Kina L’Aero d’Or; Ki No Bi Sei Navy Strength gin and Ketel One Vodka – shaken and poured into a Kimura glass.
Live Twice opens daily (except Sundays) from 6pm – with a daily Happy Hour promotion menu between 6pm and 8pm.
